UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.-
WVILLIAM HOWE, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN FOLDING HAMMOCK-SUPPORTERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 210,037, dated November 19, 1878 application filed May 29, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM HOWE, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Folding Hammock-Supporter, of which the following is a specification:
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a side elevation of my improved hammock-supporter, shown arranged in position for supporting a hammock; Fig. 2, a top view of the same, and Fig. 3 a side view of the supporter as folded up.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
This invention has reference to an improved folding and portable hammock-supporter of suitable strength, that may be readily carried from place to place and set up in position for use to support the hammock; vand it consists of three folding sections-a base-section and two inclined side sections-that are stiffened by lateral rods and pivoted to supporting-legs. The side sections and legs swing on the basesection into folded or upright position, the side sections being secured in the latter position on the base-section by means of locking devices.
Referring to the drawing, A represents the base-section, and B B are the side sections, of my improved hammock-supporter. The side sections are made somewhat longer than the base-section, and all the sections stiffened by lateral cross pieces, strengthened thereby.
The side sections B and base-section A are pivoted to legs 0, that admit the swinging of the side sections below the base-section, so as to be stored awayparallel thereto, as shown in Fig. 3.
so as to be properly When the hammock-supporter is to be set 7 entering socket-recesses on the upper side of the base-section, as shown in Fig. 1. In this manner a firm and rigid support for the hammock is formed, as the side sections are firmly locked into inclined position, the hammock being attached to the upper cross-pieces of the side sections, and the supporting-strands extended over the same and tied to the lower cross-rods of the side sections, being thus rigidly and firmly suspended for use at any desired place.
The supporter may be conveniently carried along when folded up, and stored away when not required for use, and forms a cheap, simple, and durable hammock-supporting device for city and country use.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. Afolding hammock-supporter consisting,
essentially, of the-base section A, the two side sections, B, and the pivoted legs 0, all constructed and relatively arranged substantially as herein set forth.
2. The combination of a base-section, pivoted supporting-legs, and swinging side sections pivoted to the legs, the side sections bein g secured by suitable locking devices to the base-section, substantially as specified.
. WILLIAM HOWE.
