WITNESSES- INVENTOR,
EHARLEE L. EHEEHAN (Hamel (5M, BY 4 mz CHARLES L. SHEEHAN, 0F ARLINGTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
COLLAPSIBLE PRESS-BOARD.
Specification of Letters Patent.
PatentedNoV. 23, 1915.
' Application filed November 20, 1914. Serial No. 873,222.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES L. SHEEHAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Arlington, in the county of Middlesex, 1n the State of Massachusetts, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in C01- lapsible Press-Boards, of which the following is a specification, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to the class of pressboards used commonly by tailors, as well as by housekeepers and laundrymen, for pressing garments, and for ironing shirts, shirt-waists and other garments, and my present purpose is to provide, at a reasonable cost, a strong, serviceable and convenient form of press-board that may be readily I collapsed into small compass when not in use, in order that it may be hung up or stored in a drawer, clothes-press or other out-of-the-way place, until it is again needed.
My improved press-board is illustrated in the annexed drawings, Figure 1 being a side elevation of a board embodying my improvement as it appears when opened. Fig. 2 shows said board collapsed and ready to be stored away. Fig. 3 is a top or plan view of the same. Fig. 4: is a perspective view of the press-board as itappears when opened up ready for use. In Fig. 5 I have shown,
1n perspective, a detached view of the latch employed by me to lockthe press-board in its opened position.
Referring to these drawings, the letter a indicates a base-board having hinged thereto two parallel uprights b and 0 whose other ends are hinged to a press-board d in such manner that the said pressboard may be folded down upon the base-board, as seen in Fig. 2 of the drawings. Hinged to the baseboard a, at d is a'brace d that pitches in a or extended positions.
direction opposite to the folding movement of the press-board with respect to the baseboard. 7
When the device has been opened, the brace 622 is swung upward until its otherwise free end contacts with the underside of the press-board, and said brace is then latched in its bracing position by a button 6 which is secured to the press-board (see Fig. 1), thus firmly lockingthe parts in their open When, however, it is no longer desired touse the press-board, it is only necessary to swing the button 6 to one side (out of latching engagement with the end of brace (Z when the uprights b-0 and the press-board may be folded down as in Fig. 2.
One end of the base-board a is provided with an opening 9 so that the collapsed press-board may be hung .up if desired.
Having thus described my invention, I
claim as new and wish to secure by Letters Patent A device of the type described, including o a base member, a press-board, leg-forming members, and a propping member, said legforming members being hinged to said base and said press-board, and said propping member being hinged to said base-member, at,
position, said button-forming member hav ing a right-angled edge-projecting fingerpiece.
