LAUNDRY JACK OR BRACKET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 293,971, dated February 19, 1884.
(No model.)
To all whom it may concern/.-
Beit known that I, FRANCIS LYEoRD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Boston, in the State of Massachusetts, have invented Certain new and useful Improvements in Laundry Jacks or Brackets, of which the following is a speciication, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
The object of this invention is to provide a bracket or jack for the support ofan ironingboard especially adapted for ironing skirts, shirt-bosoms, andlike articles, and at the same time to adapt the bracket to other usefulness in the household without additional expense, as will more fully appear by reference to this specification and the accompanying drawings,
in Which- A represents an ordinary kitchen-table. B is the clamp, consisting of two projecting lips, G and D, and the Set-screw E. This clamp is penetrated by a vertical hole through which passes a rod, F, held at any convenient point by the set-screw I. Near the top of this rod is a projecting lip, G, and the extremity of the rod terminates in a slightly-conica1 end adapted to receive the removable bracket H. This bracket H consists of a rim of metal open within andprovided with feet, which keep it from direct contact with a table or any object upon which it may be placed. Its purpose is to serve as a stand for the irons, either on the standard F or on the table, and it also serves as a support for a tea-pot or other article, when arranged for use with a lamp for heating purposes, as shown in Figure 3.
Fig. 1 shows the jack as used in the support of an ironing-board. The clamp C D E is at-` tached to the side of the table. The ironingboard I is placed on the rest J, and the lip G is adj usted so as to receive the end of the board and hold it, either in a horizontal position, as
This invention is an improvement on my Patent No. 215,380, of May 13, 1879, and embodies changes suggested by my experience in the manufacture and sale of that device.
I am aware of the patents to Grummon, No. 161,026, March 23, 1875, book-supports, and Lyford, No. 215,380, May 13, 1879, ironing-tables, their construction, and arrangement of their various parts, and therefore do not broadly claim the same; but
What I do claim isi Inalaundry-bracket, the combination of the clamp B, having projecting lips C and D and set-screws E and I, with the adjustable vertical rod F, formed to slide within bracket B, and the perforated bracket H, having projecting feet, and pivoted on the upper end of rod F by means of a recess in its angular end, said bracket forming a support for a sad-iron above the table, or a tea-pot over a lamp, substantially as shown and specified.
7 In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
FRANCIS LYFORD.
