A A FOLDINGIRONI'NGJTABLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 282,469, dated July 31, 1883.
Applicaiion filed September27, 1882. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, LEVI R. SAMPLE, of Marseilles,-county of La Salle, and state of Illinois, haveinvented certain new and useful Improvements in a Folding Ironing-Table,
of which the following is a .full, clear, and exact description, that will enable others to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters Io" of reference marked thereon, forming a part of this specification.
This invention relates to improvements in that class of ironing boards or tables thatare adapted to be adjusted to different positions,
I 5 and when not required fer use may be conveniently folded up in a compact form.
, Figure l is a View in perspective embodying my improvement; Fig. 2, a vertical central longitudinal section; and Fig. 3, a trans- 2o verse section-in the plane 3 3, Fig. 2.
Referring to the drawings, Arepresents the table or ironing-board proper, having the front end rounded 0d, the back end being square, and is provided with the sad-iron stand A,
rigidly secured to the under side of the same and projecting outward therefrom, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawings, so as to leave the top of the table entirely clear. The table is supported by the long legs B B, the short 0 legs 0 O, and theadjustable support D. The
upper ends of the longer legs are pivoted to the ends of the cleat (I, placed on the under side and located at the back end of the table, the' legs extending therefrom at an oblique angle, and resting on the floor at a point under the front end of the table. The lower ends of these legs are connected and braced by the roller a, which is adapted to rotate. The lower end of the broad support D is rigidly s'e-\ 4o cured to the roller a, while the upper end comes in contact with the under side of the table, and may be moved to different positions, for the purpose of varying the height of the table. Theloose end of thesupport D is retained in place at the different points of adjustment by means of the series of cleats a attachedto the under side of the table. This support D may be turned inward and downward when folding up the table, and turned down and outward when a large garment is to be slipped over the table. The upper ends of theshorter legs, 0 G, are pivoted to the inside The angular shoulder b on the bracefrods is adapted to engagewith the staple (I, inserted in the legs G C. lowered the hook end (1 may be made to engage with the staple d, whereby the bracerods are lengthened out to conform to the change of position. By this arrangement the brace-rods may be conveniently shortened or lengthened, as circumstances may require, and, being made of metal, are both light and durable. I i
d d are light bars which slide in and out from underneath the table, and are for the purpose of holding small articles of clothing. I am aware that: ironing-tables. have been provided with inclined legs having an adjustable support for the table attached to a roller have been provided with a support having an angular shoulder which rests on the top of the table-supporting standard, and to these features I make no claim; but I am not aware that brace rods having a hook at one end and an angular shoulder near the hook has ever been used.
rods b I), provided with angular shoulders I) and the hook end d, substantially as described.
