PATENT FFICE.
MOLLIE HENRIETTA MCOORKLE, OF LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY.
COMBINED LAP-BOARD AND TABLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part Of Letters Patent No. 581,127, dated April 20, 1897. Application filed June 18, 1896. Serial No. 596,090. (No model.)
10 00% whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, MOLLIE HENRIETTA Mo- CORKLE, residing at Louisville, in the county of Jefferson and State of Kentucky, have invented a new and Improved Combined Lap- Board and Table, of which the following is a specification.
My invention seeks to provide a very simple and economical combined lap-board and cutting-table which can be readily adjusted for use as an ordinary lap-board or for use as a cutting or work table.
My invention also seeks to provide a table of this kind having parts thereof made detachable and the principal part thereof supported and vertically adjustable on a suitable standard, whereby the same is made portable and whereby when used as a lap-board the weight of the board or table will be on the said standard and not on the lap of the user, as is the case in the use of the ordinary lapboard.
With other objects in view, which will hereinafter appear, the invention consists in the peculiar combination and novel arrangement of parts, such as will be first described in detail and then specifically pointed out in the appended claim, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure l is a perspective view of my invention, the same being arranged as a cuttingtable. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the central or lap-board portion seen from below. Fig. 3 is a top plan of the lap-board portion. Fig. 4 is a detail section taken on the line 4. 4 of Fig. 2. Fig. 5 is a view of the segmental or detachable'lap-board member hereinafter referred to.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, in which like letters indicate like parts in all the figures, A indicates the base or standard, which has an internal threaded socket A to receive the threaded supporting leg or shank B, the upper end of which is secured to the central or lap-board table-section O, as clearly shown in Fig. 2. By connecting the members A and B in the manner described and shown the table 0 can be readily raised and lowered, as conditions may require.
The table-section O is cut out at one edge, as indicated by C, so that the table portion can be moved close on the lap of the user, and
at each side of such cut-out portion C the said table has drawers 0 0*, as shown.
On the under side at the ends the table-section 0 has a series of castings D D, having loop portions cl d to receive the hook portions E E, secured on the under side of the table extensions F F, which are braced and supported when attached to the section 0 by the bracket-plates G G, as most clearly shown in Fig. 4.
J indicates a detachable lap-board section which is adapted to fit the cut-out portion C of the board 0 and when in place to form such board in a solid table-section, as shown in Fig. 1.
The section J has hook-castingsj, which are adapted to engage the loop-castings 0 secured on the under side of board 0, which board is also provided with swinging brackets 0 which are adapted to be swung out under the section J to support the same.
K indicates a net-frame having hook portions is, adapted to engage loop-eye members L L, secured to one or both of the extensions F F, such frame being provided to hold the material from which the pattern is to be cut. I From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, it is thought the advantages of my invention will readily appear. It will be observed that when the parts are assembled, as shown in Fig. 1, the same constitute a substantial cutting-table of a length sufficient when cutting a dress-skirt or long garment to hold the material and prevent it from dragging on the floor, the adjustability of the support admitting of the table being quickly raised or lowered to a proper height so the operator may stand and cut with comfort. Furthermore, when the leaves or extensions F F are removed and the table 0 used as a lap-board the operator can have free use of the lap and limbs without danger of disarranging the lapboard, it being also manifest that when not doing duty as a-lap-board by adding the section J the member C can be converted into a table for ordinary uses.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A combined lap-board and table comprising a central section provided at one side with a curved cut-out portion to form alap board, pable of raising and lowering the same to the segmental section J detachahly secured to adapt the device for use as a cutting-table or :o the central section at the cut-out portion and completing the central section, the end leaves detaehably secured to the central sect-ion and adapted to be removed when the latter is used as a lap-b0ard, and a Vertically-adj ustable support secured to the central section and caa laplioard, substantially as described.
