Beit known that I, LEE R. TRoMrETEI-z, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cedar Rapids, in the county ofBoone and State of Nebraska, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Operating of which the following is `a specif Tables, fication. l
This invention has for its object the provision of an easily adjusted and eiiicient 'table especially adapted for holding hogs and other domestic animals while they are being vaccinated or being subjected to other surgical operations. The invention seeks to provide a table which may be readily adjusted to the position most suitable under any given circumstances and which, when not in use, may be collapsed into a very compact form so that it may be stored in a small space. Other incidental objects ofthe course of the following description. f
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings and willbe hereinafterA fully set forth.

In carrying-out my invention, I employ a plurality of supporting legs which lare preferably arranged in rectangular relation and each of which consists of a lower standard l having an enlarged foot 2 at its lower end which is preferably of spherical formation, as shown, in lorder to readily move it from place to place as may be desired. j 'said standard l fitsv slidably and telescopically` within an upper tubular section 3 andthe members l and 3 are held in any set relative position by a set screw 4 mounted in the lower end of the tubular member 3 and adapted to bear against the standard l, as shown `clearly in Fig. 11, the lower end of the tubular member being annularly enlarged, as shown at 5, to provide a suiiicient bearing for the set screw and also to serve as a stop for a sliding collar which will presently be more particularly mentioned. The upper end of the tubular member 3 is provided with an enlarged spherical head 6 which imparts a somewhat ornamental appearance to the table, and upon they said member immediately below the said head, I secure collars 7and 8 by set screws 9, as shown and as will be readily understood. These collars 7 and 8 are each provided with laterally projected lugs or ears 10 t0 which braces are pivotally attached. Collars kor secure the braces against relative movement.
Upon referencey to Figs. 2 and 4, it'will be noted that the legs may be held in vertical positions or may be disposedso as to converge upwardly and will beheld against spreading in either position by .the said braces l2. Extending betweenI the upper collars 7 at the ends of the table are foldable braces 16 which have their outer ends detachably pivoted to the lugs 10 upon thesaid collars by thumb screws 17 and have their inner ends connected by a rule joint 18 whereby the brace may be folded inl one direction but will be held against movement in the opposite direction. Vhen thetable top is to be supported in a flat horizontal position, as shown in Figs. 1 and'2, the braces 16 are arranged with their stop shoulders 19 at their topsidesfso that the braces will be preventscrews 17 are removed, the braces are reversed. and the thumb screws then replaced so that the braces may be folded downwardly, as shown in Fig. 4. I also provide collars 20 which are secured to the tubular members 3 by set screws 21, these collars 2() being arranged above the sleeves or collars 11 and being provided with laterally projecting lugs 22 and 23. By referring more particularly to Fig. 10, it will be noted that the lugs 23 are substantially parallel to the lugs 13 and adjacent the same, while the lugs 22. are disposed at a right angle to the lugs 13 and 23. Pivoted to the lugs 23 and extending between the same at the ends of the table are folding braces 24 which correspond in construction to the braces 16 but are .arranged to fold or break upwardly only., Then the table top is used in a flat condition, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the braces 24 will be folded upwardly, but when the table top is used inthe V-shaped form, shown in Figs. 3 and 4, and the legs are converged upwardly, the braces 24 :are straightened, as shown in Fig. 4, so that spreading of the legs and collapse of the structure will be prevented. The folding braces. cooperate with the diagonally disposed braces 12 and impart rigidity to the structure so that it will be very firm while in use. .l Slidably mounted iupon the tubular members 3 of thelegs above the collars 2O are the sleeves or collars 25, the downward movement of which is limited by lugs or other forms of stops 26 upon the said members. These sleeves or ycollars 25 are provided with lugs orl ears 27 corresponding in location to the lugs 22 upon the collars 20,
and pivotally attached to the said lugs 22 andv27 are the outermost members of lazy tongs 28 which extend along the sides of the table and are pivotally attached to slee-ves and collars at each end thereof. When the table is to be used, the lazy tongs are opened or extended, as shown in Figs. 1, 3 and 5, so that the legs may be moved apart to the full length of the table top, but when the device f is not in use,.the lazy tongs is collapsed, as
shown in Fig. 6, so that the legs will be brought close together with the lazy tongs folded between them and the device may be then placed out of the, way in a corner o-r other small space. "When the device is to be thusfolded, thebr'aces 16 and 24 are, of course, broken or folded, as shown in Fig.
i. and the rigid braces 12 are, of course,
`permitted to swing into positions closely approaching parallelism.
, The table top consists of two leaves or sections 29 which are similar in construction and are connected at their inner meeting edges by hinges 30, the hinges being secured tothe under sides of the sections or leaves and having their pivot pins disposed between the meeting edges of the leaves in recesses or notches provided therefor. The table top may thus be opened into a fiat position, as shown in Fig. 2, or may be folded together so as to assume a trough-like or V-shaped form, as shown in Fig. 4, o-r may have their working surfaces brought against each other so as to occupy the minimum space when the device is not in use. The outer longitudinal edges of the sections 29 are reinforced by angle irons 31 having notches 32 'in the edges of their depending webs adapted to engage the braces 16 at the opposite ends of the supporting structure. The table top will thus be carried by the said braces and will be prevented from having endwise movement,and it will be readily noted that the top is notfastened to the braces so that, while it will not shift in'use, it may be removed by simply lifting it from the braces. Near the inner meeting edges ofl the leaves 29 and alined with the notches 32 in the braces 31 are brackets 33 having depending webs provided with notches 34 which are also adapted to engage over the braces 16 and thereby aid in maintaining the tabl'c top in the operative. position. It is frequently necessary to ybindl the animal upon the table so as to hold him in proper position for a successful Operation, and to accomplish this end I provide the chains 35 which may be carried over the table top, as shown clearly in Figs. 3, 4 and 5, and engaged in hook bolts 36 provided in the legs near the upper ends thereof. These hook bolts are. inserted diam'etric-ally through the upper members 3 of thelegs 4and are held in such position as to prevent slipping of the chains by thumb nuts 37 mounted upon roo the threaded ends of the bolts and turned home against the legs, as shown and as will be readily understood.
From the foregoing description, taken inconnection with the accompanying drawings, it will be seen that I' have provided a very simple and easily -adjusted table .which will be held firmly in its operative position when it is in use and may be very easily and quickly -folded into `a smalll compass when it is to be stored out ofthe away. When setting up thedevice, it is necessary merely to move the legs apart to the extent permitted by the lazy tonfrs at the sides and the braces at the ends. FVhen the legs are in the collapsed adjustment shown in Figs. 6 and 7, the upper folding braces are, of course, arranged in the position shown in j Fig. 4. If it be desired to support the table aie secuied over the body of the animal after the animal has been placed upon the table. When the legs have been moved apart to the desired positions, the pins or bolts 15 are inserted through alined openings 14- in the braces 12 so that lateral collapse of the structure will be prevented, and endwise collapse will obviously be prevented by the engagement of the braces 16 with the end walls of the notches 36 and y34 in the reinforcing bars 31 andthe brackets 33 respectively. The telescopic forni of the legs permits the table top to be brought to any desired height quickly and easily and also enables the operator to support the table top in an inclined position, as shown in Fig. 5. The enlargements or collars 5 serve as stops to limit the downward movement of the sleeves or collars 11 when the supporting structure is being folded, and the collars 20 serve as stops for the collars or sleeves 11 when the structure is being set up. Spreading of the legs longitudinally is prevented not only by the engagement of the braces' 16 with the notches 32 and 34 but is also prevented by the engagement of the collars or sleeves 25 with the stopsI 26 inasmuch as separation of the legs endwise of the table involves longitudinal or horizontal extension of the lazy tongs and this extension o-f the lazy tongs is prevented by the stops 26 "arresting the downward movement of the collars or sleeves 25.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
1. A table comprising a plurality of legsy arranged in rectangular relation, foldable means connecting the legs longitudinally, means connecting the legs transversely and securing them in vertical or in upwardly converging positions, and a foldable top fitting between the upper ends of the legs and connecting said legs in pairs,
constructed on its under side to engage the upper transverse connecting means'in either position of the legs and thereby prevent colv lapse of the longitudinal connecting means.
2. 1X table comprising a plurality of legs arranged inrectangular relation, lazy tongs longitudinally fo-ldable braces connecting the legs in pairs transversely, crossed braces connecting the legs transversely impairs, an adjustable connection between the crossed braces whereby the legs may beheld in vertical positions or may converge upwardly, the folding braces being reversible, and a foldable table top constructed to rest upon and engage the foldable braces and by its engagement with the foldable braces prevent extension of the lazy tongs.
3. Atable comprising a plurality of legs arranged in rectangular relation, crossedv braces connecting the legs transversely in transversely disposed braces at the upper ends of the legs, and a table top provided o-n its under side with depending webs having notches in their lower edges to engage the said braces. p
