The legs 13 are connected at their lowerends by a cross rod or round 16, while thelegs 14 are connected at their lower ends by cross braces or strips 17. A latch bar 18 is hinged to the round 16 and is provided with a notched free end 19 to engage the braces 17 at their crossing angle, so as to hold the legs spread to form j a stand to support the ironing board in a 7 firm and stable manner. Blocks 20 are secured to the under side of the outer end of the board 9' and are formed with cross grooves 21 pivotally receiving the pin 15,

which is engaged and held seated in said grooves by a latch dog 22. This dog 22 is carried by a board, plate or strip 23 slidable longitudinally of the board in guide ways formed by the blocks 20, so that the dog may be slid into and out of engagement with the pin 15, to engage or release said pin to connect the stand with the board or disconnect it therefrom, as will be readily understood.

Fig. 1 shows the device in use a a chair, from which it will be seen that the board 9 hangs pendent at the back of the chair and is secured by the latch 12, while the stand in folded condition is retained between said board and the seat back 3, and is inclosed in the space between the slotted guides 5. When it is desired to employ the ironing board, the latch 12 is released and the ironing board swung outward, after which the legs are unfolded and swimg outward to a vertical position and locked in spread condition by the latch 18 to provide a stand to support the outer end of the board, the inner end of which is supported by its hinged connection with the upper end of the seat back 3. If it should be desired to eX- tend the length of the board, this may be done by sliding the seat back 3 upward and throwing itdownward to a horizontal position, as shown in Fig. 3. In folding the board. the latch 18 is released, the leg 13 and 14 are folded together and swung up- Ward against the under side of the board, and the latter is then swung back to the normal position shown in Fig. 1 parallel with the seat back and secured again by the latch 12. The device will then be disposed in the form of a chair and therefore may be arranged in a compact position in a room or apartment and used to perform the function of an article of ordinary furniture. The boar'd23 is designed to be drawn outward, as shown in Figs. 3 and 9, to serve as a sleeve board or supplemental board for ironing and pressing sleeves, the waist portions and shoulders of garments and other small work.

From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the drawings, the construction, mode of operation and'advantages of my improved combined chair and ironing board will be readily understood, and its conveniences appreciated. It will of course be obvious that while the construction shown is preferred modifications may be made within the scope of the invention without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages thereof. v
