FOLDING TABLE AND BLAGKBOARD COMBINED.
No. 380,366. Patented Apr. s, 1888.
NY PETERS Phcwimvognphcr. Wnhinmvn. [1 C,
UNITED STATES PATENT FERDINAND TR-APP, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Application filed October 18, 1887.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FERDINAND TRAPP, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Folding Table and Blackboard Combined, of which the following is a specification, reference being bad therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention has for its object to provide a blackboard for schoolchildrens home use that can be adjusted on its frame to different inclinations or to occupy a horizontal position thereon, so that it can be used as a table, the whole being so constructed that the supporting-frame can be folded flat against the blackboard, to occupy but very little room for storing away or while not used; and with that object in view my invention consists of the novel devices and combinations of devices hereinafter described and specifically claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a vertical cross-section of the blackboard when on its usual inclined position; Fig. 2, an edge view of the same when folded for storing away; Fig. 3, an elevation of the blackboard as changed into a table, and Fig. at a bottom view of the same.
Corresponding referential characters in the several figures of the drawings designate like parts.
A denotes the blackboard, having secured against its rear face two parallel strips, a. Near thelower end ofthe blackboard the strips a have bored holes, into which are fitted the rounded ends of a bar, b, thus forming a piv otal connection therewith, and to this bar I) are rigidly secured two legs, B. Against the edge of bar I) is connected by hinges c the plate C, having rigidly secured against its under face two strips, (Z, with holes for receiving the Patent NO, 380,366, (13.1265. April 3, 1888.
Serial no. 252,073. (No model.)
rounded ends of the upper cross-bar of leg D, so as to form a pivotal connection therewith. A triangular plate, E, has a rigid cross-bar,
e, the rounded ends of which are inserted into 5 holes of blocks f, secured against the rear faces of legs B, and the rear end of plate E is connected with leg D by a hinge, g. Thus pivotally connected, the legs B and D and plates C and E will fold upon each other, as shown by Fig. 2, while for affording arigid stand or support for the blackboard or table a brace is provided, consisting of a bar, H, one end of which being pivotally secured to leg D by a hinge, h,while its opposite end ispassed through a slotted opening, '5, in plate E, and is provided with rigid shouldering pin 9' and with removable pin It.
Against the middle of the rear face of blackboard A is secured by ahinge, m, a bar, M,
having ratchet-teeth. This bar moves in a slotted opening, a, of plate C, and either one of its teeth engages with a pin, 0, secured across this opening, for sustaining the blackboard on any desired angle of inclination.
IVhat I claim is The plate C, having the upper ends of legs B and D pivotally connected to it, the plate E, pivotally connected at its opposite edges to legs B and D at about mid-height thereof, the brace-rod H, pivotally connected to leg D and engaging with a slot in plate E, and blackboard A, pivotally connected with legs B and provided with pivotal ratchet-bar M, engaging with a pin in plate C, all substantially as described, for the purpose specified.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
FERDINAND TRAPP. Vi tn esses:
