Description

No. 817,023. n PATBNTED APR. 3, 1906. A. WALLACE.
IRONING BOARD.
APPLICATION FILED JULYzz, 1904.
Stro/mmf ALEXANDER WALLACE, OF SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH.
lHONlNG-m-BOAHD.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented .April 3, 1906,
i Application filed July 22,1904. Serial No. 217,671.
To LZZ 'wh/0m t Trl/Cty concern.'
Beit known that I, ALEXANDER WALLACE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Salt Lake City, in the county of Salt Lake, State of Utah, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ironing-Boards, of which the following is a description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
My invention relates to improvements in ironing-boards of the class known as combination-boards,7 upon which various kinds of and portions of garments are adapted to be ironed.
The invention consists in details of construction hereinafter described, and set forth in the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawings, which illustrate the invention, Figure 1 is a top plan view. Fig. 2 is a side elevation. Fig. 3 is a sectional plan view of the board. Fig. 4 is an elevation of one end of the device, and Fig. 5 is a similar view looking from the opposite end of the same.
Similar letters of reference are employed to indicate corresponding parts throughout the several figures of the drawings.
The base-board B is of rectangular contour and is provided near one end with a pair of spaced vertical standards a, which serve as supports for an upper sleeve and yoke board, the main portion A of which is adapted for use in the ironing of sleeves and the like, While the end D projects beyond the end standard a and may be employed for the ironing of yokes and other articles.
ing in block Secured tothe inner face of the base B is a guide-block i), having a guiding-opening for the passage of a small board C of a length less than that oi the base, one of the standards a forming a stop for limiting its inward movement. The board C is tapered in width, its rear end being of greater width than the openb, so that said small board cannot be wholly withdrawn, and when moved out to operative position its opposite sides will bind against the sidewalls oi the gui dingopening and lock or hold the board from movement while in use.
It is obvious that the board may be reversed and the base employed as an ironingsurface, if desired, and especially to permit convenient use of the small board C. When the board C is drawn out, it is supported partly by the block and partly by engagement with the adjacent face of the board B.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a device oi the class described, a pair of boards, standards connecting the same, a block secured to one board, and having a guiding-opening, and a narrow board slidable through said opening, the board being ta pcred in width and binding against the side walls of the opening to hold it from movement when in use.
In testimony whereof I aHiX my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ALEXANDER WALLACE.
