SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 707,577, dated August 26, 1902.
Application filed November 9, 1901. Serial No. 81,659. (No model.)
To (all, 112710710 it nuty concern:
Be it known that we, CHARLES H. FOX, a resident of East Orange, Essex county, and WILLIAM H. RANDOLPH, Jr., a resident of Rahway, Union county, State of New Jersey,
both citizens of the United States, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toys, of which the following is a specification.
The object of our invention is-to provide a toy in disk or wheel form which will travel along the ground when pulled by a child or other person; and to this end the invention comprises an annular body and a cord or the [5 like pivotally connected therewith at the axis thereof.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part hereof, wherein- Figure l is a perspective view of a toy embodying our invention. Fig. 2 is a face View thereof enlarged, and Fig. 3 is a cross-section on the line 3 3 in Fig. 2.
Similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several views.
The numeral 1 in the drawings indicates the body portion of our improved toy, which is shown in the form of a disk, although it may be made in other suitable form, like a wheel, and the body 1 is shown provided with a flange 1 to provide arelatively wide tread. At the axis of the body 1 is a pivot 2, shown in the form of a pin or stud, having a head 2 on one side of the body and a stop 2 on the other side shown in the form of an eye,
whereby said pivot is maintained in conneotion with the body 1, so that the latter can rotate freely without rotating the pin or pivot. The pin or pivot 2 is provided with a cord or similar connection 3, which preferably has a ring or loop a at its end to be grasped by a persons finger.
In using the toy a child or other person grasps the connection 3 and while traveling forwardly permits the body 1 to run upon the ground, pavement, or the like, whereupon the body will be caused to assume an upright position, as indicated in Fig. l, and will travel forwardly, rolling like a wheel, and as the body 1 is pivotally attached to the connection 3 said body will rotate freely without winding up or interfering with said connection.
Having now described our invention, what we claim is- I A toy comprising an annular body, a pivot located in an opening at the axis thereof and having a head on one side of the body and an eye on the other side, the head and eye being adjacent to the body to limit the movement of the pivot in said opening, and a cord or the like connected with said eye on the side opposite the head whereby the cord is kept from being worn by the body, substantially as described.
