Be it known that we, HENRY JACQUES GAIs- MAN and JOSEPH ROSS, citizens of the Unitedk p States, and residents of YNew York city, county and State of New York,I have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Waist- Belts, of which the followingis a specification. Our invention relates to an improved belt, strap, or the like, particularly adapted for use 1o around a persons waist; andthe invention comprises an intermediate or central portion" A made of braided strands and end portions connected thereto, one of which end portions car ries a buckle and the other is adapted to con-- neet therewith. By preference the strands and end portions are made of tubularor folded material, whereby nished edges are provided, and the ends of the strands are located in the bores of the end portions and are there zo concealed and fastened. e

Similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several views.

In the drawings the numeral l indicates strands, of which several are braided together, forming the main intermediate or central por'- tion of the belt or strap, and 2 3 are the end portions, respectively secured to the opposite ends of the strands l. To the end portion 2 is attached a suitable buckle 4, adapted to connect with the end portion 3, as by holes 3d 4o therein, adapted to receive the tongue 4a of the buckle. The strands l are preferably formed into a flat braid, and the ends of the strands are placed side by side and there secured to the end portions 2 3. To provide Vthe strands l with finished or rounded edges, we make the strands in tubular form, as by folding the material of the strand upon itself, (see Fig. 4,) preferably causing the edges to abut between the marginal or outer edges of the strand, and

-The end portions2 and 3 are also preferably 55 made in tubular form, respectively adapted to receive in theirbores the corresponding ends of the strands l, and the tubular portions are made by folding the material upon itself, as described with reference to the strands l, the abutting edges being preferably stitched together, as shown at 3b in Fig. 3. After the ends ofthe braid of strands are passed into the bores of the portions 2 3 the parts are secured together, as by stitches 5. The tip 6 of the portion 3 maybe finished by foldingback and stitching the outer end. The tubular end portion 2 is looped through the buckle, folded upon itself, and secured together, as by. stitches, and a loop 7 for the end of the portion 3 may be secured in the fold of the portion 2 behind the buckle, all as in Fig. 5. The parts l, 2, 3, and 4 forming the belt or strap will be strong, durable, and attractive, and as the parts l, 2, and 3 have folded or 75 rounded edges a very serviceable and neat article is produced, raw edges being avoided, and the salability of this class of belt is enhanced.
