COMBINED SCRUB-BRUSH AND MOP-HOLDER.

Be it known that I, JOSEPH SCOTT RAN DOLPH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lorain,in the county of Lorain and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Combined Scrub-Brush and Mop-Holder, of which the following is a specification.

This invention is a combined scrubbingbrush and mop, and the object thereof is to provide a device capable of ready attachment to a scrubbing-brush to which any suitable material may be secured to form a mop.

iVith these objects in view my invention consists in certain peculiar features of construction and novelties of combination, as will fully appear in the following specification and particularly pointed out in the claims, reference being had to the drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective View of my improvement in use as a scrubbing-brush. Fig. 2 is a similar view of the device used as a mop. Fig. 3 is an enlarged perspective view of my improvement applied to a brush, but with the material forming the mop removed; and Fig. 4 is a cross-sectional view of the same, the section being taken in advance of the central bracket and handle.

In practice I employ a scrubbing-brush A, which may be of the ordinary construction, and to the brush I fasten my attachment B, which is in the nature of a mop-holder, and consists of a central bracket 0 and the end brackets D. The central bracket is formed with an extension O, to which the handle E is secured, and is also provided with an aperture 0, through which projects a brace-rod F, whose ends are secured to the free ends of the brackets D. The brackets D have their opposite ends terminating in short horizontal portions I), the extreme ends thereof being flattened and apertured,through which passes a screw or nail that securely holds the brackets/to the brush. The bracket 0 is held to the brush in a similar manner as the brackets D and is formed with a strengthening-rib 0 as clearly shown in the drawings. The end brackets are also provided with a series of apertures in which are held the opposite I ends of longitudinal supporting rods or wires G, around which is wound and held the mop H. The portions of the end brackets to which the rods or wires are fastened are preferably arranged semicircular, so that the mop when positioned upon the rods will attain a similar shape, and thereby providing a contacting surface of the mop, no matter in what position or angle the handle may be held, and in practice I prefer to provide the brackets C with an extension, as shown at O ,which is designed to bear upon the mop, and thereby hold the central portion of the mop into positivecontact with floor. also forms a brace for the mop, as will be readily understood.

From Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawings it will be readily seen that in order to change the use of my device from a brush to a mop it is only necessary to reverse the handle from one side to the other and the mop will then be in position for use. It will also be seen that my device is exceedingly simple and can be readily attached to a brush after the one previously used is worn out, and likewise the material used for the mop may be easily secured in position, as will be readily understood.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. The combination of a brush having apertured brackets held upon the opposite ends thereof, the central portion of the brackets being arranged in a semicircular form, rods connected to the said brackets and having their ends secured in the said apertures, a centrally-arranged bracket secured to the brush and having a semicircular extension formed thereon, a handle projecting from the said bracket, a brace-rod connecting the said end brackets, and centrally-arranged bracket and a mop carried by the rods that are secured to the semicircular portion of the brackets, substantially as shown and described.
