fi gfvze 4102 UNITED STATES PATENT, OF IC ARTHUR DES RE BOUDET, or. PARIS, FRANCE, ASSAIGNOR TO JULES LEON VIMONT, OF PARIS, FRANCE.
SHIRT-BAND STIFFEN ER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 700,013, dated May 13, 1902.
' Application filed February 15, 1902. Serial No. 94,152. (No model.) I
To a, whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ARTHUR DESIRE BOUDET, a citizen of the French Republic, residing in Paris, France, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shirt-Band Stifieners, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has for its object a detachable attachment of oelluloid, metal, or any other suitable supple and resistant material for stifiening the neckbands or wristbands of soft shirts, such as shirts of flannel or silk, Oxford shirts, Jersey shirts, and the like. The said attachment is in two parts jointed or hinged together by means of an eyelet or any other suitable joint, vso as to facilitate its introduction into the neckband or wristband through an opening formed for this purpose in these parts.
The following description, referring to the accompanying drawings, will clearly explain the invention as applied to the neckband of a soft shirt.
Figure 1 shows the neckband of the soft shirt without my attachment. the neckband of the shirt stiffened like the starched neckband of a linenshirt by means of the attachment. Fig. 3 is a section through the buttonhole of the neckband without the attachment. Fig. 4 is a similar section showing the attachment placed in the neckband. Figs. 5 and 6 show a partial plan view and a section, respectively, of the'said attachment.
Fig. 7 is a plan view to a reduced scale of the attachment.
The detachable attachment comprises two lengths or sections a and b, which are thin and thebreadth of which decreases toward the end opposite the joint or hinge. The right-hand length a is placed over the lefthand length 6 and is jointed to the same by Fig. 2 shows.
the attachment is placed in position in the neckband. The metal eyelet can be coated externally with celluloid g, which protects it against the action of the atmosphere and enables the attachment to be cleaned without pushed in, so as to cause the two lengths to pass into the annularspace formed between the double thickness of the neckband. When this has been done, it is only necessary to pass the stud or button d throughthe buttonhole, and the neckband is then ready to receive the collar. The ribbon or the like h, of linen or cotton, under which the tie is passed to hold it in position can, if necessary, be attached to the stud, so as to prevent the part of the neckband containing the buttonhole from rising under a pull upon the said neckband.
'I' claim 1. A stiffener for ashirt-band consisting of two sections of thin, resilient material hinged together at their ends, said stiffener being provided, adjacentto the hinge, with a stud.
2. A stiffener for a shirt-band consisting of two similar sections of thin, resilient material hinged together at their overlapping ends and one of said sections having a stud attached to it below and adjacent to the hinge.
In witness whereof I have hereunto signed my name this31st dayofJanuary, 1902, in the presence of two subs cribingwitnesses.
ARTHUR DESIRE BOUDET.
