TO ALL WI-IOM I'l MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, EDWARD W. GLOVER, of Medford, inthe county of Middlesex, and State of Massachusetts, have invented new and useful Improvements in Besoin-Pads; and I-do hereby declare that the following is a. full and exact description thereof, reference being,l had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The nature of my invention consistsjn substituting an air-cushion, peculiarly constructed for that purpose, iu'place of springs or packing iii the construction of bosom-pads for ladies. A
To enable others skilledjn the art te make and use my invention, I will proceed to `describe its construction and use. In the drawings- Figure 1 is a front elevation of one of the pads as it appears when inflated.
Figure 2 is a view of that side worn next to the wearer.
Figure 3 is a cross-section through the pad.
To construct my improved pad, I proceed as follows I first form upon a suitable mould a concave disk, A B. This disk may be made of' paper, hard rubber, or any other material haring sufficient stiffness to retain its form andv still not be too rigid, and also be impermeable to air. 'lo the inner or under side of' this disk is cemented, or otherwise connected so as to be air-tight, the gathered-iu edge Il II of the elastic sack C D E F. rIhis sack is united to the disk at the line Il II instead of at the extreme edge. so that when the pad is inflated, ready for use, there will hc a thin air-cushion between the hard edge of the disk and the person of the wearer. The cushion is inated by means o? a small fiekible'tnbe, G., and may he made with suitable loops for attaching,r fit to the garment of the wearer. The advantages that I claim are that it isvcry light, not heating, and may he made larger or smaller, to suit the dress of the wearer. The under side of this pad may he made corrugated, if desirable, so as to allow of free circulation of air between the pad and the person ot' thc wearer. when thc'pad is inflated it may be kept so by simply'tying a. string tightly around the tube G Instead of the tulle Ur, the pad maybe inflated by use of any of the ordinary devices used for inllating:r foot-balls, lifc-prcscrvers, the. These pads may be made in o .ny desired shape or size.
Howing thus described my invention, I will new proceed to set forth my claim.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent ot' lhc United States, is`
An inflated hosom-pad, made by uniting the sack C I) E F to the under side of the disk A B on the liuc II II, which is more or less remote from thc extreme edge of' the disk, substantially as described, and for the purpose set forth.
EDWARD W. GLOVER.
