.T0 ALL WHOM IT MAY CONGERN:y Y
:Bey it known that I, C. W. BLAQKMAN, of Bridgeport, in the county ot liainield, and 'State of Connec have invented n new und improved IIens Nest; a'nd that the following. description, taken in connection wil necompnnyinfar drawings, hereinafter referred-to, forms a full and exact specification of the same, wherein I Vset forth the nature and principles of my seid improvements by which my invention may he, distinguished fro others of o similar class, together with such ports as I claim, and d esire to have secured to me by Letters Pa to lay eggs iu one nest at the same time, :rndv when n. hen is sit-ting on efr the sitting hen' disturbed.
This invention relates to o new und improved nest for hens', :ind has tier its object the prevention ofA tuen one hen occupying the nest at the suine time. It is-very frequently' 'the-case that two hens will ende l:gs-other hens will frequently enter lay eggs in the nest, which is attended with a great annoyance und loss,'as the additional eggs laid to u. sil hen are 'soon renderedworthless, und'they cannot bevremoved:withoutthe old-or original eggs are marked `My Invention consists in having u'box provided with doors, rods in such a manner that e-hen, when the nest is unoccupied, andwhenwithin the letter the doorsnill be immovable from t constructed in o. novel wey, and connecte muyreudily press them open and enter the: he ontersd-e'of`V the nest, but the h'en withi sllowedto poss out without any ditieulty whatever. In the accompanyingsheet of drowingsports, b b', which'ere at right migleswith each other, as shown clearly in ir. 2.

Similareletters of reference indi'cete'like parts.
A represents n box, which is of quadriletcral fornn'and of any Isuitable dimensions, and' has en opening in the upper part of oneside of it.' In-.thi's opening a there are placed two doors, B 1 3, composed each of These doors ore hung on pi' 'e c alt their ongles, and the'epnrts b are equal in width but not suiciently wide to extend across the-oper a,a' pace being allowed between about two-thirds the width of the ports b b of the doors. The two vdoors 'connected by two rods C C, the'rod ofl one door, which is connected to the outer and upper end of the par bein connected to the outer end u er end of the art b of the other, the two rods crossin each other g PP P g shown 'in iig. 2. By means of thisrod-conneotion the two doors are mede'toopen and close simultaneously,: owing to the curves or arcs the parts-b Zaof thedoors describe in being opened und closed. The rods C C se as springs,'nnd assist in the opening and closing of the doers, and retain them in an open end a. closed stz that is to soy, prevent thcin from moving from tliesetwo positions.
' vWhen the doors-B B are in the position shown in tint in fig. 2, the parts b being within the nestet the si thereof, and the parts b et the Front of the ncst,`c. hen cannot enter the nest from lthe outer side thereof, bu hen within cnn pass out, and in pessingput will move the ports b to the pince occupied bythe perts'b, while latter will project out from the front of? the nest, :is shown in red, and when the doors are in this posi-tion u l con pfiss into the nest from the outer side o-f thesnme. Y I
Hoving thus described my invention, I cluim as new, ond desire to secure by Letters Patent- A nest' for hcns, composed of a. box, A, provided with two doors B B hung on piyots'c e, nnd'construcl cachot-two parts, b b', st right ongles with erich other, and connected by cross-rods C C, all arranged to operi in the mann-cr substantially as shown and described.
