Be it known that I, WILLIAM P. READ, of Longmeadow, Hampden county, Commonwealth of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Paper Binding; and I do .hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon. Thisinvention consists of a device for fastening together sheets of paper, such as newspapers, music, dto., sov as to confine them somewhat in theform of a hook, that is, having leaves all fastened together at one edge, leaving the rest of them free to heturned over.
In construction I form my fastener of a small strip, A, of some suitable sheetmetal, which may be japanned or otherwise ornamented on the outside. This strip is bent around the odge of thesheets to be fastened together, the strip being made suiciently wide to secure a hold; it is then pressed together, the stiffness of the metal causing it to stay in the position so obtained, confining the edges of thepaper securely together. Holes a a a may be made through both sides of the fastener, so that a number of these pamphlets can be fastened together.
The sheets of paper so arranged are in a much more convenient form for reading or reference than they would be if left vunattaehed, and my method of fastening them together is ofso small an expense as to be hardly appreciable. Now, having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
`A paper-fastener, composed of the strip A, arranged and constructed substantially as and for the purpose described.
