PAPER-FILE SPECIIFICATION formii1g part of Letters Patent N0. 739,332, dated Se'ptember 22,1903.
Application filed November 18, 1902. V Serial N0. 131,220. (N0 model.)
T0 all whom it mag 007b067'7b: k
Be it known that I, PAUL MELZER,GHglIIBGI', a subjeet of the'German Emperor, and a resi dent of Berlin, Gennany, have irivented new and useful Improvements in Paper-Files, 0f whioh the following is a specification.
The invention relates 130 flat-paper files used as temporary binders in whieh the sheets are seoured ab their edge by a holdifig device. The construotion of this holding deviee is improved in such a ni1anne1 that the filed papers can loe lifted within the file so as to make any of the filed docutnents visible up to the left-hand edge without neoessitating the removal of the superposed pa'pers from the file.
In the accompanying drawings the improved paper-file is shown.
- Figure 1 is a perspeetive view of the opened holding device without papers, par ts o f the eover being broken away. Fig. 2 shoWs the fastening band in a gronnd plan. Fig. 3 shows in a ground plan a fastening-band in a modified construction. Fig. 4 is a side view 0f the hold ing-stripwit h the iasteningband inserted. Fig. 5 is a longitudinal section through the improved paper-file with.papers inse rted. Fig. 6 is' 1;he same view as Fig. 5 with parts of the filed papers lifted. Fig. .7 is a ground plan of the cover-plate.
The holding device eonsists of a holdingstrip b, a fastening-band c, and a eover-plate d. The holding-strip b, whieb 'is suitaloly made of strongcardboard, is glued O1 othe1w wise fixed to' the gov ena beside its"middle line, so as to p1fojeet vejbically from thebover if the same is opened. In the holding-strip b cross-slots f g 72 11 are arranged, whioh serve for the passage of the fastening-band c.
The fastening' band c eonsists of a small band of flexible metal With enlarged heads at both ends. These enlarged heads oan either V have the form of arrow-heads k, as shown in Fig. 2, 01 of eross-bolts Z, as shown in Fig. 3. The eross-slots in the holding-strip b are ofsuflicient.width to allow the passage 0f the enlarged head s of the fastening-band. The outer slotsfz' of the holding-stri p b correspond in size Land position to the slots to be punched through the papers or doouments m 130 be filed.
The cover-plate 01 can be made of any suitable-strong material, suehas thin sheet metal o1 the like. In the eover -plate d two longi-= Igitudinal slots n 0.
tudinal slots n 0 are provided, the outer edge 'of which corresponds in position with the outer edge 0f the outer slots f 41 of the holding-strip b. The longitudinal sl0ts n 0 in the oover-plate d are so small that they allow the passage of the band c, but not of the enlarged heads 0f the same. The longitudinal slotsn 0 are 'enlarged ab their inner ends, so that at in their position by the cover-plate (Z, whieh isnowput pyer the proje etihg ende of the ;fastening-band, for wlgich purpose the ends .of.the fastening-band arebent inwardly, so
that the enlarged'heads ean pass through the enlargementsat theinner ends of the longitudinal slots no of the cover-plate d. When the ends 0f t he fastening-band c are released, the bandsbeing elastic, straighten themselves and abut against oho outer edges of the lon- The cov'er-plate d is now piessed on thefiledd0oi1ments, and the ends of the fastening-band c are bent outward a nd flattened on the' cover-plate d. If on e wisl 1es t re'adone o f the filed pa-pkars, the ends 0f the fastening-band c are straightened and the superposed papers' together with the covenplate, are lifted. The enlarged heads of the fastening-bandwill prevent thepaipers and c0ver-plate frorn getting 01T the band c.
I claimv Im proved holding devioe for flat-paper files, eomprising in eombination, the holding-strip fixed beside the vertical middle line f the cover, four oross-slots in said -holding-stiip, the outer two corresponding in position with the slots to be punehed in the documents 110 band. Then the filed 'documents are seeured be filed, a fastening-band of flexible metal with enlarged heads at both ends, a coverplate of thin sheet 1netal, two longitudinal slots in said eover-plate, the outer edges of teningband, substantially as deseribed and 16 which correspond in position with the outer shown and f0r Ehe purpose sei; forth. edges of the outer eross-slots in the holding- In tesbimony whereof I have hereunto sei; strip, said longitudinal slots being smaller my band in presence of tw0 subscribing wit- 5 than the eross-slons in the holding-sbrip so as nasses.
