COVER AND DETACH'ABLE PAD.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 630,717, dated August 8, 1899.
Application filed November 12, 1898. Serial No. 696,257. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.- 7
Be it known that I, HERBERT S. KING, a citi tachable Pads, of which the following is afull,
clear, and exact description, whereby any one skilled in the art can make and use the same.
The object of my invention is to provide a cover and a pad so constructed that one cover will serve to hold a large number of pads, each renewable after the preceding one has been used leaf by leaf, as is the custom in the case of prescription-pads and others of the same class. 7
To this end my invention consists in a cover and parts in combination with attaching means, one part being secured to the cover and the other to the pad; and it further consists in details of construction of the device and their combination, as hereinafter described, and more particularly pointed out in the claim.
Referring to the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view, showing the cover with the socket members of the fastening and the pad with the flap which carries the stem member of the form of fastening used in the preferred form. Fig. 2 is an edge view of the cover and pad separated and arranged one above the other. Fig. 3 is a view in cross-section through the back of the pad and cover and the attaching means.
In the accompanying drawings the letter 0t denotes a cover of any desired size, usually that which is most convenient for carrying in the pocket-of a garment, and arranged to fold on each side of the center b, so as to inclose a pad 0 between this back I) and the two members of the cover a.
The pad 0 is made up of any desired number of leaves,'usually of paper, which may be plain or have printed upon the surface of each leaf matter which will adapt each page or leaf for use as a prescription-blank. These leaves are united, preferably, at one edge only and in such manner as to enable the separate leaves to be easily torn apart. To the back of the pad and at or near the edge e is secured a flap c made usually of stilf material, as cardboard or pasteboard, and firmly hinged to the pad. To this flap c is secured one member of each fastening device (1, the other member being secured to one of the covers a in position to enable the pad to be removably attached to the cover, with the bound edge of the pad near the back or center I), which unites the two side parts of the cover a. It is preferred that this fastening means 01 shall be of the form shown; in which the stud member 01' is secured to the flap and the socket member 01 is secured to the cover, two of these fastening devices being preferably used with each pad as a means of removably attaching the pad to the cover.
My improved construction of cover and pad, with fastening means as described, enables a pad to be easily and securely fastened in place in the cover, and as soon as the leaves are exhausted the flap can be removed, thrown away, and another pad fastened in place for use; The device as a whole is durable and compact and the fastening means secure, en-. abling the most convenient form of pad to be used with the least waste of material.
I claim as my invention The combination with a pad composed of sheets detachably secured together by means applied to the edge and having a flap, one member of a detachable fastener secured to the flap, said fastener consisting of a socket and stud frictionally held in engagement, the complementary member of said fastener secured to one leaf of a cover, and the cover having one leaf flexibly connected with the leaf secured to the pad.
