ALBERT I'. LANGEO'RD, OF VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA, CANADA.
LOpSE-LEAF BINDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. si, i914.
, Application filed April 8,1913. i A Serial No. 759,710.
To all lwhom fit may concern Be it known that I, ALBERT L, Lanoroim, a citizen of Canada, residing at Vancouver, in the Province lof 'British Columbia. and Dominion of Canada, have invented new and useful Improvements in Loose-Leaf Binders, of which the following is a specification.
The invention re aies to binders of the loose leaf type and has for an object to provide a device for carrying fileivrappers.
The invention embodies, more particularly, a binder adapted for binding together a number of sheets of paper and whereby a sheet of paper or plurality of sheets of paper can be added to or removed from a file at anyl time or from any part of the file. The invention further embodies a binder which is preferably used inconnection with adapted particularly for use 'in systems whereby papers sewithin the folder are identitab or other projecting member vertical filing fied 'upon a nating the contents thereof.
Inthe further disclosure of the invention reference is to be had to drawings, constituting a-p'art of this specification, in which similar characters of reference denote corresponding parts inail the views, and in which:
Figure 1 is a fragmentary showing my yinder attached a fragmentary rear elevation of the folder, showing the rear part of the binder; Fig. 3 is a vertical longitudinal sectional View taken through the folder and binder; Fig. 4c is a vertical transverse sectional view taken through the folder and binderyFig. 5 is a perspective view' of the securing plate' forming a part of the binder; and Fig. 6 is a perspective View of the tapecarrying member showing the tape thereon. Referring more particularly to the views, I provide a folder 10 preferably including an offsettab l1 'rinted or written matter which will identify the contents of the folder 10 and which is proletters or other file wrapperspective view ers 12.
A. tape-carrying member 13 'preferably formed of cloth guninied on the inner face is provided with pairs of parallel slots. 14
portions of tlietape. between. slots gluedor otherwise secured to the inner face of the the tape-carrying member can be secured on the rear outer face of the folder 10, with the accompanyingl on which is adapted to be passed, with the. the pairs of' preferably made. of a single piece of cardboard, leather or other suitable material, the said securing ran-ged slots- 19 formed in the ends thereof, buttons 20 being carried on the upper face of the securing plate .18
carriedpn the upper face of the securing plate adjacent the inner ends of the slots 19.
Now when the letters 12 have been arranged securing plate 18 is placed on the uppermost letter or 'sheet and it will be seen that the slots -19 will register with the perforations 17 in the letters so itli'at the free ends of the tape 15 will pass through the slots 19, after which apull is exerted on each free end of the tape and the saine is then Wound around 4each of the buttons 2O carried on ing plate 18, thus not only securing the letters l2 to the folder 10 and Within the saine, but frictionally binding the letters together so as`to prevent the same from accidentally tearing or being ripped out of the folder 10. n It will be apparent that the binder described can be cheaply constructed, the tapecarrying member 13 being preferably formed of a stout cloth and the'tape 15 beingalso preferably formed of cloth, vWhile the securing plate 18 and formed of cardboard, thus providing a simmanufactured With the folder or leaf binder,
tape-carrying member 13,l the ing perforations therein, of a tape-carrying the said rear face of the folder having aA 16 adjacent which the 12 areiprovided with perforain the folder 10 thefree ends of the-tape 15' ing plate so that the buttons'will be rigidlyv the combination with a folder adapted to contain letters havsaid inner face of the tape-carrying member being preferably provided with gum so that plate having cent-rally ari y by means of pins 21 passing through the buttons and the securin the folder in the manner mentioned, the A the securbuttons 2O are preferably l ple andl efficient article which can beeither independ--- ently 'thereof and readily attached to the' described my inventiom-'I l with apertures in the back` of ineinher secured t0 the' bach of the folder fr and provided with pairs of slots registering' the folder, a
' tape passing. through the pairs of slots and f lWith the'portion of the',g
the tapefcarrying `r'nempass v4through thevperforations in the said i nal slots' formed in the ends thereof and adapted to repose on the uppermost letter,
fwith the slots of the plate registering with f the perforatihs in the letters and thev said 4tape' passing through the slots, and buttons earried on'the upper face of the securing? plate,` adjacent the inner ends of t-he sl'ots ,v
'and adapted to have the free ends of the tape attached thereto to securely bind the letters ,5 in theffolder.
plate having longitudi- 2- A loose leaf hinder for folders adapted to contain letters,"consisting of a tape-carrying member glued to the back of the folder, a tape on the member and apertures in tue back of the folder and adapted to pass through perforations in the said letters With laportion of the said tape lying bet-Ween the baek'of the folder and the tape carrying member' and glued thereto, a so securing plate provided With slot-s adapted to register with the perforations in the let-v ters, and buttons on the securing plate and adapted to have ,the free ends of the tape Wound around 'thesame to hind the said l'et- 35 ters in the said folder.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presenceof two Witnesses. l
