Description

A. L. BRINOKLE STAMP HOLDING BOOK.
(No Model.)
Patented July 2, 1895..
WITNESSES INVENTOR I c/YcZdz7zg%nZBrz 26/%k NITED STATES PATENT. rrcn.
ADDINGTON L. BRINGKLE, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
STAMP-HOLDING BOOK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 541,833, dated July 2, 1895.
Applicati n filed December '7, 1894:. Serial No. 531,110. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known th at I, ADDINGTON L. BRINCKLE, a citizen of the United States, residingin Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in StampHolding Books, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to stamp holding books.
The object is to provide a book in which stamps may be temporarily bound and retained readily detachable, by being prevented from adhering to the leaves of the book.
With this object in View, the invention consists in an improved construction and a certain combination and arrangement of parts, which will be hereinafter fully described and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several views.
Figure 1 is a view in perspective, showing one embodiment of the invention. Fig. 2 is a view in end elevation thereof, showing the book closed. Fig.8 is a similar view, showing the book opened. Fig. 4. is a view, showing the manner in which the stamps are placed in the book. Fig. 5 is a view of a portion of the side of a book partly in section showing the fastening of the elastic.
In the drawings, A, represents the book, which comprises a number of sheets or leaves a, of oiled or other suitable paper or cloth, and a binding a For general and individual use of the stamp holding book, it is preferable to employ a flexible binding, so that stamps may be removably held and the book filled as often as required. By the use of oiled paper, cloth or any material substantially the same, all moisture will be effectually excluded and the adhesive coating of the stamps thereby retained dry and hard. The stamps, 0. which are preferably in sheet form, are arranged in an alternating series, by being interposed between the oiled paper leaves of the book.
As shown the binding proper of the book resembles somewhat a construction known as a temporary binder, in being provided with a spring or strip of elastic a at each end thereof, and fixed in a manner to hold the book tightly closed and the leaves thereof under constant tension, thereby securely retaining the loose sheets of stamps between the leaves. This elastic serves further to spread the leaves, which are permanently secured, when the binding proper is turned back, as shown in Fig. 4, and when thus placed, the book may be readily filled with stamps, which, as the book is turned back to'the position shown in Fig. 2, will be securely clamped between the leaves.
Prominent among the many advantages of this invention may be mentioned, its extreme simplicity of construction and low cost of manufactu re, together with its general usefulness and effectiveness for the purpose designed.
Having thus fully described the invention, what I claim i's 1. A temporary binding, leaves or sheets re movably arranged therein and having an adhesive coating, an alternating series of nonadhesive protecting leaves or sheets suitably secured, a flexible back and elastic bands connectin g the sides or lids of the cover, each band being attached to the cover at the junction of the back and sides, in a manner to retain the book opened or closed, as specified.
2. A book, consisting of a number of leaves having an adhesive coating, an alternating series of non-adhesive protecting sheets, afiexible back, and elastic bands connecting the sides of the cover, each band being attached at the junction of the back and sides, whereby the leaves or sheets will be retained opened or closed, as specified.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto affixed my signature in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
