TO ALL WHOM IT MAY C'ONCERN: t
Be it known that I, WILLIAM A. MORSE, of Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement on a Pen-Holder and Eraser combined; and I do herebyr declare that the following is afull and exact description thereof, reference beinr had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference `marked thereon.
The nature of my invention consists in providing pen-holders of different styles with an eraser, in such a manner as not to change the general appearance of the pen-holder and add but a few cents to the expense of it., and a't the same time have the eraser easily and conveniently at hand when wanted for use, and well protected when not in use. l 4
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, Iwill proceed to describe its construction and operation. "i
I construct a pen-holder in the usual forms, as shown at Figures l and 2. The end ofthe handleA, fig. 1, which enters the tip B, I provide with an eraser, D, made of steel, with suitable cutting edges. I usually insert a cork in the end of the tip B, sufficiently tight to prevent inl \r from coming in Contact with the eraser D. I also apply my eraser -to the top of a. .pen-holder, as shown at fig. 2, and protect the samerby the application of a metallic cup or tube, which may be attached and detached at will. The eraser D, when withdrawn from its case, may be used to erase ink-marks, sharpen pencils, or cut paper, the saine as other edged instruments.
Having thus fully described the construction and operation of my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. I claim the combination of the eraser D with the tip B and the handle A of al pen-holder, as shown and specified, and for the purpose set forth.
2. I claim the combination of the eraser D, iig. 2, cap or shield H, and handle S of a pen-holder, as shown, and for the purpose specified, Y
WILLIAM A. MORSE.
