Description

@Hitch tetes @anni @Hire OHANCY L. ANDREWS, OF CONNEAUT, OHIO.
y Letters Patent No. 67,248, dated July 30, 1867.
IMPROVE-D WASHING MACHINE.
@lgs tlgrhule tefcmh tu it these tter tant mit mating part nf tige Smits.
TO ALL WI-IOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, CHANCY L. ANDREWS, of Conneaut, in the county of Ashtabula, and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful improvement in Washing Machines; and I do hereby declarethat the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view, and
Figure 2 is a vertical longitudinal section through the middle.
The same let-ters are used in both figures in.the indication of identical parts.
A is the box, containing the clothes and wash-water. B, a frame for supporting the roller. It is construoted with parallel side pieces, with grooves B running their entire length, and parallel with one another. This frame is placed in the box, being held in place and controlled against longitudinal action by pins C, projecting from the inner faces of the side of the box on which the grooves B are placed. The frame has a free vertical motion on the pins. D is a corrugated roller, the journals of which turn in the lower end of the side pieces of the frame by which it is suspended. E is the handle, by means of which an oscillatory motionv may be given to the roller D., F F are bars, placed across the box between the sides in the segment of a circle.
The clothes being placed upon these bars they may be rubbed by the roller D, which will rise and fall so as to accommodate itself to the surface of the clothes to be washed.
I do not claim the use ofthe bars or roller having an oscillation when in use, for these I know are common; nor do I claim broadly for having the roller adjustably suspended. My invention consists in th'e arrangement of the parts so as to make a very cheap and at'the same time effective washing machine.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is`
The combination and arrangement of the box A, frame B, with parallel grooves B in the side pieces, pins C, corrugated roller D, handle E, and bars F, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence two subscribing witnesses.
CHANCY L. ANDREWS.
