Description

@anni (attire.
JON B. PADON, 0F TROY,-.ILLINOIS.
Letters Patent No. 103,491, dated May 24, 1870.
IMPRovED WASHINQMACEINE.
The Schedule :referred to in these Lettere Patent and making part of the same To all whom it may conce-rn `Be it known that I, JOHN B. PADON, of Troy,
Madison county, State of Illinois, have invented a' new and useful Improved Washing-Machine, of' which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the annexed drawing making ay part of this specification, in which- Figurel represents a side elevation of my invention, with a port-ion in section.
' Figure 2 represents a top view of same.
Similar letters indicate like parts.
It consists of a trough or box, A, figs. 1 2, having in its bot-tom a series of corrngations, a a', fig. 1, extending from one end to the other; four plates b b' b" b, g. 2, b' b, iig. 1,ma'de to slide in grooves in the sides-of the trough, form bearings for two rollers c c', iigs. 1 2, the latter' having on one end a pinion, d, fig. 1, which gears with a spur, e, i'gs. 1 2, likewise having a bearing inc';
This spur is actuated by :1 crank, h., figs. l 2.
Around these rollers are two bands 7c 7c', iig. 2, la', fig. 1, attached to which are transverse bars-m m', &o., gs; 1 2.v
Between the rollers and under the bands is arranged another set of transverse bars, o o' o, tig. 1, resting on longitudinal strips attached to the sides of the trough, one being seen at fv, fig. 1. The plates b b' b" b"may be adjusted in their grooves by the set-screws sv s ss s being shown in fig. A1, and the others in iig. 2, and, by this arrangement, the
distance between the bands andthe corrugations, both upper and lower, may be regulated at pleasure.
Water having been poured into thek box, the articles to be washed. are merely thrown on the bands, which, being set in motion by the crank, carry them with them,rnbbing them on both the upper and lower corrngations till thoroughly cleansed. f
This apparatus combines, as is evident,a gentle and sufficient rubbing of the clothes with a most thorough rinsing at each revolution of the carrier-band,` The bands will, preferably, be made of rubber, and the drumsot' any material which will not injure the article to be washed.
WVhat I claim as my invention, and desire to secure lby Letters Patent, is-
The trough A, eorrugations a a', o o', drums c c with their bands and transverse bars, thedrums being adjustable, as described, and set in motion bythe crank h and connecting gearing, all arranged, constructed,'and operating as and for the purpose shown and specified.
JOHN B. PADON.
