SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 663,245, dated December 4, 1900.
Application l'led April 11, 1900.
T0 all whom, it 11m/y concer-n:
Be it known that I, HERBERT M. STURGIS, of Kansas City, Jackson county, State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Brushes, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof.
My invention relates to brushes; and it consists of the novel construction, combination, and arrangement of parts hereinafter shown, described, and claimed.
Figure l is a view in perspective showing my improved brush and the means which I employ to connect the same with a source of water-supply. Fig. 2 is a detail sectional view showing the arrangement of the sprinof a brush having my improved sprinkling attachment secured thereto.
In carryingout my invention I secure within an aperture in thecenter of the brushblock l a cup-shaped sprinkler 2, having integral with its upper edge an annular [lange 3. The bottom of the sprinkler is provided with a plurality of apertures 4, and through the sides of the said sprinkler, below the brush-block,aresimilar apertures 5, the purpose of the latter being to deflect the water through the brush-splints. Upon the upper side of the brush-block is secured an aper. tured casting 6, in the under side of which is an annular groove 7 for the purpose of receiving the flange 3, there being packing -8 above and below the said liange for the purpose of preventing the escape of the water therethrough. The aperture through the said casting is screw-threaded, and into the said casting is threaded a tubular elbow 9, the same being provided with a suitable ange 10 above the casting 6, between which flange and the casting is placed packing 11. Connected to the outer end of the member 11 is a hose 13, of any desired length, which hose carries on its free end a threeway tubular Serial No. 12,461. V(No model.)
casting 14, to each fork ot" whichis secured a hose 15, the purpose of said connection ,being to connect the brush with hot and cold through the hose 13 enters the cup 2 and is sprayed through the apertures 4 5, thereby wetting the brush-switches. By this arrangement the necessity of removing the brush from the object to be cleaned is obviated, thereby saving both time and labor and accomplishing the work fully as well or better than can be done by brushes of ordinary construction. Y
The brush may be used for toilet purposes or for house-cieaning and other purposes.
I claiml. A device ofthe class described, comprising an apertured brushblock,a perforated cup carried in said aperture, an annular flange integral with said cup, a grooved casting for inclosing said flange and means for connecting the device to a source of water-supply, substantially as specified.
2. A brush comprising a brush-block, a perforated cup carried in an aperture in said brush-block, a casting having an annular groove in its under side for receiving an annular fiange on the upper edge of said cup,
means for securing said casting to the brushblock, an angular tubular casting removably carried by the said grooved casting, and means for connecting the device to a source of watersupply substantially as specified.
4In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
