SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 361,584, dated April 19, 1887 Application filed September 28, 1886. Serial No. 214,762.

Be it known that I, JOHN GEORGE FLOWER, of Boston, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Window-Brushes, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

This invention relates to brushes for wash-.

ing and cleaning windows and such like, and more particularly to an attachment for the head of such brushes, to be connected, preferably through a rubber or other suitable hose, with a water-supply, and all in such manner as to secure to the brush in use a supply of water, and one which maybe made either continuous or intermittent, as may be thought most desirable.

To this end the invention consists, in sub; stance, of a water pipe or tube shaped to encircle the brush-head at one-preferably its upper-side when in use, and provided with a series of jet-holes for the discharge of streams or jets of water, and in a direction toward and against the bristles of the brush, and with a pipe making communication between it and a water-Suppl y, and which preferably is adapted to act as a handle for the brush in use, in combination with a plate or other suitable holder therefor by and through which to attach and detach it from the brush-head, all substantially as hereinafter described.

In the drawings forming a part of this specification, Figure 1 is a sectional view of the attach ment of this invention, showing it secured to a bruslrhead in cross-section. Fig. 2 is aface view of the attachment on an enlarged scale. Fig. 3 is a plan view of a circular brush-head with the attachment of this invention applied.

In the drawings, A is the block or head; B, the bristles, making the brush proper, and O the handle, which under this invention is a metal or other suitable pipe or tube, suitably adapted at one end, D, to be coupled to an india-rubber or other flexible hose, or otherwise connected to a water-supply, and provided with a stop-cock, F, of any suitable construction. opposite to that at which it is connected to the water-supply, as stated, is bent, as at G, and screwed into or otherwise secured to the elbow-shaped water-passage H of the plate J, which is fastened by screws to the brush-head A. This elbow-shaped water-passage H has a water-pipe, L, which crosses its upper end, and is shaped to lie against the edge M at and along one side of the brush-head A, and along its length it has a series of perforations or etholes, N, for the escape of water in small streams or jets, and of a direction to pro ect the so-escaping streams or jets against the bIlS- tles of the brush-head, and thus to charge and supply them with water, the water being supplied from the water-supply to which the handlepipe G is connected, as before stated.

The water-pipe L, with jet-holes N, is preferably located at the upper edge of the brushhead, thus securing the better discharge of the water upon and its entrance into and among the bristles of the brush-head.

The water-supply apparatus for abrush-head herein described is applied to brush-heads of round, square, or other forms, and by providing the handle-pipe with a stop-cock, as described, the water can be let on to and shut off from the brush, as maybe desired.

A plate, J, to be attached to a brush-head, and having a water passage,H,of elbow shape, and a water and supplying pipe, 0, connected to one end of said passage,in combination with a water-distributing pipe, L, having perforations N, and connected to and crossing said passage H at the end thereof opposite to that at which said pipe 0 is connected, substantially as described, for the purpose specified.
