SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 733,018, dated July 7, 1903. Application filed March 9, 1903. Serial No. 146,806. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS DE VILBISS, of Toledo, county bf Lucas, and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful 1mprovc'ments in Showering Devices for Attac hment to Bath-Brushes; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the figures of reference marked thereon, which form part of this specification.
My invention has reference to an improvement in shower bathing apparatus, and has particular reference to a showering device designed for attachment to bath-brushes.
The object of my invention is to provide an inexpensive and durable showering device which may be instantly attached to or detached from a bath-brush to permit the brush to be used with or without the shower, as may be desired.
Furthermore, my invention is simple in arrangement and easily kept clean, being as a consequence strictly sanitary.

In the drawings, Figurel is a plan view showing my improved shower bathing device attached to a bath-brush. Fig. 2 is an elevation of the same. Fig. 3 is a section of the device on line w 00, andFig. 4 alike view on line y y, both sections being indicated in Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawings, 1 indicates the back of an ordinary bath-brush, the marginal edge of which is preferably formed with a'half-round groove, (indicated at.2.) The showering device for attachment to the brush comprises a resilient metallic tube bent and formed into shape to embrace the back of the bath-brush, that portion embracing the back being adapted to occupy the marginal groove 2. The free arms 3 and 4 of the tube are extended in parallel relation to provide a handle for the brush, and the end 5 of the arm 3 is suitably closed or plugged against the passage of water, whereas the end of the arm 4 is open 'and formed with a nipple 6 for the attachment of a flexible tubing adapted to be connected with the faucet of a bath-tub or other water-supply. .The bent portion of the tube adapted to embrace the back of a brush is provided with a plurality of perforations '7, arranged to project jets'of water inward and downward toward the bristles of the brush.
8 is a clasp or keeper secured to the arm 4 at 9 and having one end 10 in the form of a hook to engage the end of the arm 3, the same being reduced to permit engagement.
The device is operated as follows: The end of the arm 3 beingunhooked from the keeper 7, the resiliency of the tube. will cause the free arms to spring apart and take the position shown in dotted lines, Fig. 1. The brush may then be inserted between the bent portion of the tube adapted to embrace the same and the arm 3 is secured by the keeper, when the brush will be firmly held in position. The device after being connected by means of a flexible tube to a water-supply will be ready for use, and the brush may at any time be instantly detached to be used independent of the showering device.
It will be observed that the tube formed, as shown, with an extended handle adapts it to be used conveniently for brushing and showering the back of the user.
It is apparent that the bent portion of the tube embracing the brush may be made to spring inward slightly and that the natural resiliency of the tube may be alone employed to firmly hold the brush, so that the keeper for securing the ends of the tubular section may be dispensed with.
The novelty and utility of the invention will be apparent.
Having described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s
1 1. A showering device for attachment to bath-brushes, comprising a section of resili-,
ent tubing having an inlet for water and formed with a bent portion provided with discharge-orifices, adapted to embrace the margin of a brush and be secured after at tachment by the natural resiliency of the tubing, substantially as described.
2. A showering device for attachment to bath-brushes, comprising a section of resilient tubing having an inlet for water and too formed with a bent portion provided with discharge-orifices adapted to embrace the margin of'a brush and be secured after attachment by the natural resiliency of the tubing, the free ends of said tube being extended in parallel relation to form a handle, substantially as described.
3. A showering device for attachment to bath-brushes, comprising a single section of resilient tubing, open at one end for the inlet a of Water and closed at the other, and formed with a bent portion provided with dischargeorifices adapted to embrace the margin of a brush, the free ends of the tubing being extended in parallel relation to form a handle, and a clasp for securing the free ends, substantially as described.
