BATHING APPARATUS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Il atent No. 744,370, dated November 17, 1903. Application filed September 15,1902. Serial No. 123,358. (lilo model.)
To all whom t may concern: r
Be it known that I, LEO VALENTINE LEV- -INGER, a citizen of the United States, residing at San Francisco, in the county ofV San Francisco` andpState of California, have in-A vented certain new and useful Improvements in Bathing Apparatus, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
My invention relates to new and useful improvements in bathing apparatus; and its object, among other things, is to provide a brush adapted to be used upon the-body and which is so constructed that it can be attached to a suitable watersupply and will direct water under pressure against the body from points between the tufts of the brush.
A further object is to provide moans Whereby the brush can be firmly but detachably secured to the Water-feeding device.
With the above and other objects in view the invention consists in providing a hollow cap of suitable form, which is adapted to be connected to a Water-supply by means of a flexible tube or hose. Fastening means extend from the edges of this cap and serve to engage a brush lhaving perforations formed between the tufts thereof. These perforations are `so arranged as to register with similar apertures formed in the adjacent face of the cap.
The invention also consists in providing means for preventing the escape of the water from between the adjacent faces ofthe cap and brush; also, in the further novel construction and combination of parts hereinaf-V ter more fully described and claimed, and
illustrated in the accompanying drawings,
adapted to be secured to a flexible tube or hose 3, extending from a spigot or other water-supply. Apertures 4 are formed in the bottom of the cap, and spring-arms 5 extend of said bottom. The ends of these arms are preferably provided With knobs 6, which serve to engage the outer edges of the back 7 of a brush and hold said brush fastened firmly against the bottom of vthe cap. Apertures 8 are formed in the back of the brush at points between the tufts 9 and are adapted to registerwith the openings 4:.
If desired, a iiange l0 may be formed along the edges of the base of the cap and a washer ll fitted therebetween. This Washer is prodownwardatsuitable intervals fromtheedges V vided with apertures 12, registering with openings 4c and 8, and absolutely prevents the water from leaking between theparts.
By means of a handle 13, secured to one side of cap l, the device may be readily moved back and forth upon the body. As the brush rubs the skin the water is sprayed under pressure thereupon, and a pleasing and eective bath is thus obtained. Whenever it is desired to remove the brush from the cap, it is merely necessary to press the knobs 6 outward from engagement With the edges thereof. In the foregoing description I have shown the preferred form of my invention; but I do not limit myself thereto, as I am aware that modifications may be made therein withf out'departing from the spirit or sacrificing the advantages thereof, and I therefore reserve the right to make such changes as fairly fall within the scope of my invention.
. Having thus fully described my invention, what I therefore claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a lbathing apparatus the combination with a brush having apertures in the .back thereof at points between the tufts; of a hollow cap having apertures therein adapted to register with the apertures in the brush, fasteners for detachably securing the cap to the brl1sh',-a'perforated washer interposed between the cap and brush, means for feeding -water to the cap and a handle.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
LEO VALENTINE LEVINGER.
