GOLD-CATCI -IING DENTAL-CUSPIDOR ATTACHMENT.
To all whom. it may concern:
Be it known that I, Dr. ROBERT M. Free, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Le Mars, in the county of Plymouth and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gold Catching Dental-Cuspidor Attachments, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in dentists spittoon attachments. The special object of the invention is to provide a device for saving the gold particles.
Another object is to provide a simply constructed positively operating cuspidor attachment whereby the small gold particles removed in grinding and polishing gold filled teeth may be saved.
With these and other objects in view the present invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and finally pointed out in the appended claims, it being further understood that changes in the specific structure shown and described may be made within the scope of the claims without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification and in which like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views Figure 1 shows an elevational view with parts broken away of a gold catching device embodying my invention disclosing the same as attached to a dental fountain spittoon.
Fig. 2 is a section on line 2, 2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a top view of one of the tray forming members.
In my present invention, I provide a simply constructed attachment arranged to be used in connection with a dental cuspidor whereby the gold particles removed in grinding gold filled teeth which have heretofore been. an entire loss, are saved.
In the accompanying drawing I show a gold catching device embodying my invention as attached to a fountain spittoon A, which is inconnection with the usual water pipe 1.
My invention proper comprises a housing made of two tubular members bothofequal length which are secured by means of a pipe connection D, near one end, as shown in Specification of Letters Patent. Pgfl gnted Itiay 14,, 1531 Application filed July 17, 1917. Serial N0. 181,185. 7
By means of a nipple Z; the upper tubular member B is secured to the neck a of the spittoon A.
The member B has both of its ends closed by means of suitable caps 2 and 3 while the lower member C has one end closed by means of the cap 4:, the other end being secured to a pipe connection 5, in the form of a bend, to which is secured an ordinary S- trap 6 from which extends the over flow pipe.
Held within the upper tubular member B is a flat top base member 11 which snugly fits into the lower portion of the housing B as shown in Fig. 2 and removably held upon the top 11 is the gold catching tray-forming member 12 which member is provided with a plurality of transversely extending spaced grooves 14 between which are located groops of semi-circular depressions 15 which serve as wells in catching the gold particles as they are carried through the housing by means of the water escape in flushing the cuspidor. a
The t o members B and C with the con. nection D form a water way through which the old carr in water asses in findin an escape to soil pipe.
The lower member C is provided with a simple fiat member 10 closely fitting into what forms the bottom portion of the tubular member and removably held on this member 10 is the gold tray-forming member 13 also provided with a plurality of transverse grooves l l and groups of semi-circular depressions 15.
The members B and O are secured in superposed horizontal spaced relation and held by means of a suitable bracket 9 which bracket is provided with the outwardly curved clasping portion 17 and upper clasping portion 16 used in conjunction with a yoke comprising an upper olasping portion 4 withdraw the trays and remove the col-' lected precious metal.
Having thus described my said invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by U. S. Letters Patent is 1. A gold catching device of the character described including a housing comprising tWo superposed tubular members held in spaced relation, said members being connected near one end, and said upper tubular member being arranged to be brought into connection With a dental spittoon, caps for closing the ends of said upper member, said lower member at one end being connected to an S-trap, a cap for closing the other end of said lower member, a flat top base member closely fitting into the bottom portion of each of said tubular members and a removable tray-forming member held upon each of said base members, each tray member having a plurality of transverse grooves arranged in spaced relation, with a plurality of semi-circular depressions between said grooves.
2. A dental spittoon attachment compris- 7 ing two connected tubular members one of said members being adapted to be connected to a dental cuspidor, the other member ar ranged to be connected to an S-trap, and a gold catching tray removably held Within each of said tubular members, all arranged as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I atlix my signature in the presence of two Witnesses.
