SUPPORT FOR PUNCHING BAGS.
(No Model UNITED STATES ROBERT NIooL, OF
CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
SUPPORT FOR PUNCHlNG-BAGS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 651,637, dated June 12, 1900.
Application filed February 19, 1900. Serial No. 4,733. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, ROBERT NICOL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Supports for Punching-Bags, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is to construct a support for punching-bags used in gymnastic exercises in which the support has a universal movement and in which other bags can be substituted without removing the support.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of myimproved support. Fig. 2 is an under face view. Fig. 3 is a vertical section. Fig. t is a vertical section showing the withdrawal of the knot. Fig. 5 is a sectional view showing my support and punching-bag.
The support consists of a base-plate 1, having a depending center portion 2, slightly contracted at its lower end and having an opening 3. Side openings 4 are formed in the depending center portion. A spherical segment 5 has a central opening 6 and a center cavity 7. This spherical segment is located Within the depending center portion and is supported by the contracted lower end. A cord 8 is passed through the opening in the spherical segment and formed in a knot 9, located in the center cavity. A punching-bag is supported from the cord. This construction of support allows the bag to swing in all direc-. tions and without jerking.
By making the openings 4 in the depending portion the knot holding the bag suspended can be withdrawn sufficiently to allow it to he untied and removed from the support and a different bag employed or when the cord breaks a new one can be substituted without removing the support from its place of rest.
I claim as my invention- 1. A punching-bag support consisting of a base-plate having a depending circular extension connected at its lower end, and provided With side openings, and a spherical segment having a perforation therein located within the extension and supported by the contracted end.
2. A punching-bag support consisting of a base-plate having a depending circular extension contracted at its lower end and a spherical segment having a perforation therein located within the extension and supported by the contracted end.
3. A punching-bag support consisting of a base-plate having a depending circular extension contracted at its lower end, and a spherical segment located within the extension, and supported by the contracted end, the spherical segment having a central cav ity and a radial opening.
