UNITED snares PATENT FFIQE.
WILLIAM H. PEARSON, OF PASSAIO, AND ROBERT A. WERNAU, OF CLIFTON NEW JERSEY. I
TOY.-
Application filed June 30,
I Specification of Letters Patent.
K 1906. Serial No 324,118-
Patented May 14, 1907.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that we, WILLIAM H. PEAR- soN-and ROBERT A. WERNAU, both citizens of the United States, residing in Pass'aic and ifton, respectively, Passaic county, New Jersey, certain new and useful when the surface portion of a suitable body on which the article is placed is agitated, the vibratory action imparted will induce the bristles to give motion tothe articles over said surface.
Our invention further consists in a mech anism for supporting and causing the movearticles, the same comprising a suitableframe, a vibratory diaphragm and means for agitating the diaphragm.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, wherein our invention is fully illustrated, Figure 1 is a perspective view illustrating our invention; Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of the mechanism on which the articles figures may be arranged to be supported and to move; Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional View of said mechanism; and, Fig. 4 is'a view illustrating one of the figures, the same being partly broken away to show the bristles.
Referring, first, to Fig. 4:, which illustrates, by way of example, one of the figures which may be used, the same being marked a, within the fi in their lower portions, projecting slightly l below the skirt (1 of the figure, which is that I of a Woman. When this figure, so constructed, is placed on a smooth flat surface and the latter agitated, the figure will be caused to move in various ways and directions over.
said surface. The figure should be constructed of paper orsome fabric orthe like which is spect whatsoever above outlined and the claims.
Referring now to Figs. 1, 2 and 3, e is a frame of rectangular form in which is held stretched a diaphragmf of any suitable material, such a spaper, sheep skin, etc. Trans- I versely of the frame and arranged a shaft 9 carrying tappets h which excepting the particulars hereinafter diaphragm at regular intervals as the shaft rotates. At one end the shaft may carry a fiy-wheel i. The shaft may be driven by a clock work or other motory' which is mounted l in the frame (2 and is operatively connected with the shaft; if the motor is a clock work motor, as shown, then the key If is employed 5 for winding it. The frame will also be pro- I vided with a drawer Z running on slides m in i which to place the figures when not in use.
Having thus fully described our invention,
what we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is: y
1. As an article of manufacture, a toy in the form of a suitable figure having bristles arranged vertically therein, their lower ends free and projecting below the base of the figure, substantially as described.
. 2. As an article of manufacture, a toy in the form of a suitable figure having a bunch of bristles arranged vertically therein and secured together and to the figure at their upper ends and their lower ends loose and projecting below-the base of the figure, substantially as described.
In combination, with a frame and a diaphragm arranged in said frame, a figure hav- 5 phragrn arranged therein and means for agiing bristles arranged vertically therein, their In testimony, that we claim. the foregoing, to lower ends free and projecting below the base We have hereunto set our hand this 18th d a'y of the figure, substantially as described. l of June, 1996.
