amusement.
A further object-of the invention is an.
improved my embodying a vibratory stick or bar,*a rotary-member such as apiece of cardboard or they like carried on one end-of the bar, and a slide movable on the bar, the bar being notched in one or more edges whereby the slide as 1t is manipulated back and forth on the bar, will cause thesame to vibrate and cause the rotary member to spin.
With these and other objects in view, as will more fully appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists in certain constructions, arrangements and combinations of the parts that I shall hereinafter fully describe and claim. v
For a full understanding of the invention, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, in Which- I Fi re 1 is an elevation of a toy embodying t e improvements of my invention, the slide hereinafter referred to being shown in section. Fig. 2 is a view of a portion of the device at right angles to Fig. 1. Fig. Sis a transverse section on the line 33 of Fig. 1, and Fig. dis a detail view of the rotary member which may be employed.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the followingdescri tion and. desig nated in all of the views 0 the accompanying drawing by like reference characters.
My improved toy comprises a stick or bar 1 which may be formed. of wood or any'other substance or material capable of vibrating" ashereinafter more s eci cally pointed out, said bar being -provi ed at one end with a handle portion of any desired construction or formation and being formed near its other end with any desired number of transsimple fastening device.-
Mounted on the bar 1 is a slide 5, the same versely extending notches 2.- Rotat'ably mounted on the end of the bar 1 is a spinning device 3 which of cardboard, drawing,
rotatably secured to the end 'of the bar by a tack 4 or some correspondingly being provided with an opening 6 by which it may be slipped over the bar and being designed to ride over the notched portion 2 of the latter to Preferably theside walls 7 of the ,o
ening 6 1n the slide 5 are obliquely dispose making the opening 6 of such shape and size,"
transversely considered, thatthe bar may slide freely through the wider portion of the opening 6, whereby when the slide.5 is grasped by the finger piece 8 it may be ele vated slig tly and slipped freely along the bar, or be pressed down over the notched portion 2 thereof, so that when it is thus caused to slip or slide over the bar, it will repeatedly strike the walls of the notches 2 and cause the bar to vibrate which will result in producing a spinning'motion of the rotary member It will thus be seen that I have provided parts of which are few in number and capable of being very cheaply, manufactured and assembled.
While the accompanyin drawing illustrates what I believetto be t e preferred embodiment of my invention, it is to be understood that the mvention is not limited thereto, but that various changes may be made in the construction, arrangements "and pro portions of the rom the scofe of the invention as define in the appen ed claims.
cause the bar to vibrate.
parts without departing may be, for example, a piece 7 as clearly indicated by the a very simple-toy or amusement device, the
Preferably, the slide 5 is' formed of rubv her and it is provided in the openin 6 with bulged portions 9- designed primari y to directly engage the transversely extending notches 2 to secure the desired vibration.
WhatIclaimis: i 1.- A toy' of the character described comprising a' bar formed with a transversely notched portion, a rotary member carried by the bar at one end of the latter, and a slide formed with an opening by which it is adapted *to be sli pedover and upon the bar, whereby the slidemay be movedzfreely along b ar or into frictional and slidg engagement with the notchedportion thereof; l
- 2. A toy of the character described, comprising a bar provided witha plurality {of transversely extending notches, a card rota-1. tably'secured to'one end 'of the bar, and a slide tormedwith an opening b 'which it isf'edapted tobe slippedover an upon the bar the slide being provided with a finger Eipce and-the opening tapering toward the gen piece.
transversely extending notches, a rotary member carried b ,the bar at one end of the latter and a flexiblefslide formed with an opening by which it is adapted to he slipped ogvep npon the bar, whereby the slide character described coina harprovided with a plurality of ma be moved along the bar infrictional an i'sliding engagement with? the notched portion thereof, for the purpose set forth.
4. A toy of the character described comprising a bar provided with a plurality of transverselv extending notches, a card rotatably secured on one endof the bar and a v slide' formed with an opening by which it is adapted to be slipped'over and upon the bar said opening tapering toward one end an formed in 1ts side walls with' bulged portions, for thepur-pose speclfied.
In testimony whereof I hereunto afiix my "S. G. Don'rnm,
