To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, JACOB A. THOMAS, of Reading,in the county of Berks and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Garment-Supporters, of which the following is a specification.

My invention is an improvement in garment-supports, and has for its object a device especially adapted for holding the waist of a ladys garment and skirts and other nether garments securely in place around the wearers waist.

The invention consists in certain details of construction and arrangement of the parts, which I shall first describe and then particularly point out in the appended claims.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.

Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved garment support, the same being shown attached to a belt. Fig. 2 is a detail face view of the support. Fig. 3 is a plan view of the same. Fig. 4. is a vertical sectional view of the support, illustrating the manner of connecting a hook which is secured to a waist to my improved support.

To the strip or belt 10, having an ordinary buckle 11, is secured my improved garmentsupport A, which is located, preferably, at such a point on the belt that it will lie against the middle of the wearers back when the belt 10 is fastened in place. The support A consists of a preferably metal base-plate 12,.having inturned upper and lower edges forming flanges 13 and 13*, by which it is held on the belt, the flange 13 being divided at about its middle and the metal of the base-plate being extended below its lower edge at this point, forming a clip 14:, adapted to hold one member of a safety-pin 15, as shown in the drawings. The said lower flange 13 is further provided with apertures 16 in vertical alinement with similar apertures 17 in the upper flange 13, said apertures being designed to form a bearing for the swinging clasps 18 and 19, consisting of approximately U shaped wires, whose side members 18 and 19 are journaled in the said apertures and prevented to take into keepers 22, formed, preferably,

by bending over the extended ends of theupper flange 13.

In practical operation the wearer attaches the belt 10 around her waist with the support A at the back. The shirt-waist, for instance, is put on under such belt and the safety-pin is fastened to the shirt-waist. The clasps 18 and 19 are then released from their keepers and swunginto open position, and the pointed ends of the same are inserted through whatever nether garments it is desired to hold in place. The clasps are afterward closed into engagement with their keepers and the shirtwaist and skirts and the like are securely held in place.

If a waist terminating at the waist-line of the wearer is to be worn, a hook B is secured to the lower edge thereof and is caused to hook over the upper flange 13, as shown in Figs. 1 and 4.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. A garment-support, consisting of a belt, a base-plate having upper and lower flanges by which it is held on said belt, the said flanges being formed with apertures and one of the flanges being separated between its ends and a clip formed between such separated sections, a pin adapted for attachment to an upper garment and secured to said clip, inverted-U-shaped elasps adapted for attachment to the nether garments having side mern: bers j ournaled in the said apertures,and keepers formed on the ends of one of the flanges and adapted to engage with the other side members of said clasps, as set forth.

2. A garment-support, consisting of a belt, a base-plate having upper and lowerinturned edges forming flanges by which said baseplate is held on said belt, the said flanges having vertically-alined apertures, andone of the flanges having extended bent ends forming keepers, olasps mounted to turn in said apertures and having pointed ends arranged name to this specification in the presence of to be received in said keepers, the said clasps two subscribing witnesses.
