PACKAGE CARWER.
$PECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 642,308, dated January 30, 1900.
Application filed December 23, 1898. Serial No. 700,111. (N0 model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JAMES A. R. ELLIOTT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kansas City, in the county of Jackson and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Package-Oarriers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to package-carriers such as are employed for facilitating the carrying of small parcels, bundles, and boxes or groups of the same.
The package-carrier herein described is particularly int-ended for seeming together for carriage a number of small boxes, such as those in which shotgun-cartridges are packed; but it may be used also with other classes of parcels or books.
My invention consists in the novel relative arrangement of the straps or bands, handle, and movable corner-pieces.
My object is to provide a simple and inex' pensive carrier bywhich a number of parcels, books, or boxes, such as the boxes in which shotgun-cartridges are packed, may be secured together and carried readily and which maybe adjusted easily and quickly to receive a larger or smaller number of boxes, as may be desired. This object is attained in the invention herein described and illustrated in the drawings which accompany and form a part of this specification, in which the same referencenumerals indicate the same or corresponding parts, and in which- Figure 1 is an elevation of a number of small boxes with my package-carrier wrapped around the same and holding them together. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the boxes and the package-carrier about the same, and Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view of one of the cornerpieces.
In the drawings, 1 1 are a series of small boxes or parcels surrounded and bound together by the carrier. The carrier consists of two straps or hands 2 and 3, secured together, arranged at right angles to each other, and provided with buckles or other fastening devices i and 5, the handle 6, secured to one of said bands, and metal corner-pieces 7, mounted upon one of the straps or hands and The straps 2 and adjustable along the same.
3 are preferably secured together by means of a short piece 8, secured at the ends to one of the straps, as 2, and between which and its strap the other strap, as 3, may be passed. The point of connection of the two straps 2 and 3 is preferably beneath the handle 6. The handle 6 is preferably a flexible strip secured to one of the straps, as 2, and there may be provided at the ends of said handle loops 9 9, through which the loose end of said strap 2 maybe passed. This loose end then forms, in effect, part of the handle.
The corner-pieces 7 may be stamped from sheet metal and are provided with out-side loops 10, through Which the strap upon which they are placed may pass. They are also provided with indentations 11, forming on the inner sides projections, which prevent the boxes from slipping within the carrier.
In using the carrier the straps are unbuckled and placed around a group of boxes or other bundles, such as illustrated, one strap passing around the boxes in one direction and the other strap passing around said boxes in a direction at right angles thereto. The corner-pieces 7 are adjusted so that when the strap upon Which they are placed is drawn tight they will be at the corners of the package and the straps are buckled tightly. The corner-pieces 7 prevent crushing of the boxes. Whenever it is desirable to remove one of the boxes, the strap 2 may be unbuckled, one or more of the boxes removed therefrom, the corner-pieces at the end from which the boxes were removed readjusted, and the strap buckled again.
Having thus completely described my in vention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a packagecarrier, the combination, with cross supporting-straps 2 and 3 provided with fastening devices, a handle provided with loops 9, 9, of adjusting corner- pieces 7, 7, provided with outside loops 10, 10, and indentations 11, 11, movable along one of said straps, whereby the carrier may be adjusted to receive and hold one or several articles orboxes, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
JAMES A. R. ELLIOTT.
