UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,
CHARLES GUST. FRANSSON, OF NORXVAY, MICHIGAN.
WOOD-CARRIER.
SPECEFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 340,303, dated April 20, 1886.
Application filed February 19, 1886. Serial No. 192,604. (No m0del.l
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CHARLES GUsT. FRANS- soN, of Norway, in the county of Menominee and State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Wood-Carriers, of which the following is a specification, reference being bad to the annexed drawing, forming a part thereof, which is a perspective view.
The object of my invention is to provide a simple and effective device for carrying wood and similar fuel from the place of storage to the place of use.
My invention consists in a strip of canvas folded together in the middle of its length, and provided with gores forming the ends of the pocket, the canvas being hemmed at the ends to receive bars for supporting the end of the canvas strip, the canvas strip having at the ends hand-holes for convenience of handling.
It also consists of hooks and eyes combined with the bars for fastening them around the bundle of wood. I
The canvas strip A, which is of sufficient length to encircle the bundle of Wood to be carried, is provided at its ends with hems a, for receiving the bars I), which project slightly beyond the edges of the canvas strip. The strip A is folded in the middle of its length, and gores B,which extend from the fold about half-way to the ends of the strip, are secured in-the fold to opposite edges of the strip by sewing. The edges of the canvas strip A are preferably strengthened by a binding, 0, and near the hems a hand-holes d are formed in the strip, and the canvas around the holes is strengthened by the binding e, said bindings c e being made of heavy tape or carpet. The
wood to be carried is placed in the-pocket formed by the strip A and the gores B, and the bars b are grasped by the hands, the fingers being allowed to project through the hand-holes d.
When it is desired to fasten the ends of the wood-carrier together, to confine its contents, the hooksf upon the ends of one of the bars b are brought into engagement with the eyes 9 upon the ends of the opposite bars I).
In the manufacture of my improved woodcar rier I do not limit or confine myself to the use of any particular material in its construction, or to any particular form of its parts.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Let ters Patent, i s
1. The combination, with the strip A, provided with hems a at the ends thereof,of gores B, secured in the fold of the strip, and bars I), inserted in the hems a, substantially as herein shown and described. p,
2. The combination, with the canvas strip A, provided with hems a at the ends thereof, and having hand-holes d, of the gores B, secured in the fold of the strip A, and bars b,inserted in the hems a, substantiallyas herein shown and described.
3. As an improved article of manufacture, a wood-carrier formed of a canvas strip, A, having hems a at the ends thereof, and provided with hand holes d, the gores B, secured to opposite edges of the strip A in the fold of the strip, the bindings c e, secured to opposite edges of the canvas strip and around the hand-holes, and hooksf and eyes 9, connected with the ends of the bars I), substantially as shown and described.
CHARLES GUST. FRANSSON.
