AT I'ORNEYS WITNESSES:

MAX RUBIN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR TO MARX & SON, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN SHAWL-STRAPS.-
Specifieation forming part of Letters Patent No. 221,616, dated November 11, 1879; application filed June 6. 1879.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, MAX RiiBIN, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new Improvement in Shawl-Straps, of which the following is a specification.
Figure 1 is a side view of my improved shawl-strap. Fig. 2 is a cross scction of the same, taken through the line a: m, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a cross-section of the same, taken through the line y y, Fig. 1. 7
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The object of this invention is to furnish an improved shawlstrap, which shall be simple in construction, inexpensive in manufacture, and convenient in use, clamping a shawl or other package tightly, and holding it securely.
The invention consists in the combination of the looped straps, the bar provided with the slots and the upright arms, the crank-handle, either double or single, provided with slotted shanks, and the catch, as hereinafter fully described.
A A represent two straps, which are passed through two slots in the end parts of a bar, B, and through a single slot in the shanks of the crank-handle.O,-and their ends are connected together by rivets, sewing, or other convenient means, forming two endless bands. The ends 12 of the bar B are bent upward at right angles, and have holes formed in them to receive and serve as bearings for the outer ends of the shanks c of the crank-handle C.
The handle 0 may be made double, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, or single, as may be desired.
I prefer to make the handle 0 double, as first described, as allowing the bundle to be more firmly secured. To the upper side of the bar B is hinged a U-shaped catch, D, which is turned up, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, to clasp the handle 0 and hold the straps A firmly in place around the bundle.
In using the device, the shawlor other bundle is passed through the loops of the straps A, and the cran k-handle G is turned to wind the straps A around the shanks c of the said handle 0, and draw them tightly around the said bundle. When the straps A have been drawn around the bundle with sufficient tightness, the catch D is turned up to clasp thehandle O, and thus hold the straps Asecurel yin place around the said bundle.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination of the looped straps A, the bar provided with the slots and the upright arms 11, the crank-handle 0, either double or S g e, provided with slotted shanks c, and catch or fastening, substantially as herein shown and described.
MAX RUBIN.
