Description

No. 640,803. Patented Ian. 9, I900. W. T. P ARNELL &. C. BISHOP.
CLOTHES POUNDER. (Applies-tic; filed Sept. 19, 1899.)
(No Model.)
flu/16 M UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM T. PARNELL AND OHARLEY BISHOP, OF EL DORADO, ARKANSAS.
CLOTHES-POUNDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 640,803, dated January 9, 1900.
Application filed September 19, 1899. Serial No. 730,994. (No model.)
T0 at whom, it may concern:
Be it known that we, WILLIAM T. PARNELL and CHARLEY BISHOP, citizens of the United States, residing at El Dorado, in the county of Union and State of Arkansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clothes-Founders, of which the following is a specification.
Our invention relates to a clothes-pounder and it consists in a cone-shaped body, a central vertical tube having a cone-shaped mouth, air-cups, radiating tubes, and a soap-box.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a bottom view of our invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of Fig. 1 on the line X X looking from the top of the drawings. Fig. 3 is aperspective view of the soap-box; Fig 4 is a detail View of the knee.
Our invention is described as follows:
In the accompanying drawings, 1 is the cone-shaped body. 2 is the lower rim of the same, the edge of the material being turned up to form the rim.
3 is the central tube.
4 is the'upper end of the tube, in which is securely inserted a handle.
5 is the cone-shaped mouth secured to the lower end of said tube.
6 are radiating tubes situated near the lower end of the body 1, their inner ends secured to the central tube 3 and their outer ends to the inner surface of the body 1. The central tube 3 is provided with openings 7, so that the water may pass through them into the tubes 6, and the body 1 is provided with openings 8, so that the water may pass out through said tubes and beyond the outer surface of the body.
To the inner face of the body are secured air-cups 9, open at their lower ends 10, but closed at their upper ends.
To the inner face of the body 1 is secured a perforated soap-box 11. This box consists of a perforated curved sheet of metal 12, having secured to its upper end a top 13. The edges of this sheet 12 are secured to the inner wall of the body, and one edge 15 of the top 13 is also secured to the inner wall of said body, the lower end of said boX extending nearly to the bottom of the body. To the lower end of the perforated sheet is hinged a lid 16, so shaped that when closed it will close the opening between the curved sheet of metal 12 and the body.
To the inner face of the body 1 is secured a knee-catch 17, made of a piece of wire or other suitable material bent in the shape of a knee and so arranged as to hold the door 16 closed when shut. The body 1 springs a little in and out, thus allowing the door to open and shut, the knee itself being rigid.
Having described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is'- In a clothes-pounder, the combination of the cone-shaped body 1; central tube 3; perforated curved metal sheet 12, having secured to its upper end a top 13; the side edges of the sheet 12, and the inner edge of the top 13 being seen red to the inner wall of the body 1; lid 16, hinged to the lower edge of said sheet and adapted to close the opening between said sheet and the wall; and kneecatch 17, secured to the inner face of the body 1, and adapted 'to hold said lid closed when sprung into place, substantially as shown and described and for the purposes set forth.
In testimony whereof we affix our signa tures in presence of two Witnesses.
WILLIAM T. PARNELL. OHARLEY BISHOP.
