LOUIE LEAVITT, OF ELBA, IDAHO.
I MILK-PAIL.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. '7, 1906.
Application filed March 8,1995. Serial No. 249,034.
To all (U/b07111 it wuty concern:
Be it known that I, LOUIE LEAVITT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Elba, in the county of Cassia, State of Idaho, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Milk-Pails; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to Which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to milking-buckets, and more particularly to means for preventing foreign matter from passing into the bucket during the milking operation, the ob. ject of the invention being to provide a bucket including a removable strainer so constructed as to be simple and cheap of manufacture and to be readily attachable and detachable with respect to the body of the bucket and in which such strainer attachment will not necessitate for its use a special type of bucket-body.
In the drawings forming a portion of this specification, and in which like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views, Figure 1 is a side elevation showing a bucket embodying the present invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical section taken longitudinally through the bucket. Fig. 3 is a top plan view of the bucket.
Referring now to the drawings, there is shown a bucket-body 5, having a spout 6, of usual construction, and a pivoted bail 7. In connection with the bucket-body there is provided a strainer attachment comprising an annular sheet-metal wall 8 of a size to fit more or less snugly within the top of the body 5, the upper edge portion of this wall being turned inwardly and downwardly in the form of a flange 9, lying within the inclosure and below the upper edge of the wall proper, and secured to the lower edge of this flange is a screen 10 of fine wire-gauze.
To hold the strainer above described within the bucket-body, clips 11 are provided. These clips may be integral with the wall 8 and formed by striking up from the metal of said wall, the clips being of hook shape, so that they mayfit over the bead 12 at the upper edge of the bucket-body, and the lower ends of the hooks being turned outwardly from the wall, so that the hooks may be readily sprung over the bead when the strainer is pressed downwardly into the bucket-body.
The bucket and strainer in practice may be made of anysuitable materials, and it willbe understood that the dimensions and proportions thereof may be varied without departing from the spirit of the invention.
What is claimed is- 1. A strainer for milk-pails comprising an annular wall having its upper portion turned downwardly and inwardly at an acute angle to its main portion, and a screen attached at its edges to the rear face of the said downturned portion of the wall.
2. A strainer for milk-buckets comprising an annular wall having clips struck outwardly therefrom, the upper edge portion of the wall being flanged inwardly and downwardly of the wall, and'a screen attached to the free edge of the flange.
In testimony whereof I afliX my signature in presence of two witnesses.
LOUIE LEAVITT.
Witnesses:
CLARENCE LEAVITT, SYLVIA BREWERTON.
