HAT-NALISE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 639,049, dated December 12, 1899.
Application filed March 22,1898. Serial No. 674,765. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, NELLIE FRANCES HUR- DEL, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in IIat-Valises, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is an improvement upon the hat-valise shown and described in my allowed application Serial No. 717,645.
The invention is embodied in the construction and combination of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a side view of my hat-valise closed. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the valise open and the hat-holder inclined forward. Fig. 3 is a side view of one of the hat-holders proper. Fig. 4 is a perspective View of a hat-holder proper with a hat clamped therein.
The case or body A of the valise has a cylindrical form and is divided lengthwise and centrally, the two like parts 66 66 being hinged together and one of them provided with a handle 1;.
Within one of the parts or halves c of the case A is arranged a shaft 13, the same being.
angle notches on their outer sides. A fiat ring g encircles and is adapted to slide upon the branches 9 and engage the shoulders of the notches, whereby the branches are drawn together and the ring prevented from being accidentally displaced by sudden jars or jolts. Each branch 9 terminates in a hat clamp or holder proper, h, which is formed of springwires looped and bent to embrace a hat rim and crown, as shown in Fig. 4.
By the construction and combination of parts shown I provide a hat-valise which is adapted to hold hats immovably and securely and without injury under all the exigencies of transportation.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In a valise for hats, the combination of two similar parts hinged together having secured in the side thereof, a longitudinal cylindrical, hollow, perforated tube or shaft, adapted to swing outward and inward upon a hinge in the bottom end of the valise and adapted to engage with a catch or lug at the vertex of the valise, and a series of vertically and horizontally adjustable hat-supporting arms upon the longitudinal shaft arranged one above the other, said arms being bifurcated, and their branches 9 diverging from each other, and provided with notches on their outer sides, and a band adapted to slide on such branches and engage the shoulders of said notches as shown and described.
NELLIE FRANCES HURDEL.
