IMPROVEMENT IN BROOMjPROTECTORS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 150,530, dated-May 5, 1874 application filed y February 14, 1874. K
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN J. COBURN, of Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State oi' Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Broom- Protectors; and I do liereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact descripl head, and supporting-rods connecting said bands and clamp, substantially as hereinafter described. V
Referring to the accompanying drawing, which illustrates my invention, A is a broom, to the handle ofwhich is secured a clamp, B. This clamp is made in two sections, b b, which are jointed or hinged to each other, being also fastened by the thumb-screw 1 1. The clamp B is also provided with the annular flanges or lips c c, through which pass the wires or rods DD, which support the encircling bands E E. These bands have their extremities made in the form of eyes c c, through which the wires iormin g the band pass, as shown in the drawin fr.
By the aid of this simple device cheap and `weak brooms may be strengthened s'o as to outlast brooms of. a high cost.
'Ihe band E as it encircles the head prevents the same from spreading or being bent or swayed to one side, and thus causes it to wear out evenly. As the head wears the band may .be adjusted upon it by loosening and drawing up Ithe clamp B, which may then be fastened securely in position by means of the screw b. The supporting-rods D are intended to be of suficient. thickness to sustain the head and prevent it from being broken or bent above the band.
What I claim as my invention is The combination, with the clamp B, oi the supporting-rods D D and the expanding and contracting bands E E', substantially as shown and described.
