Description
. F. BLNDEL.
Broom-Bridls.
N0. 134,459. Patent'ed Dec. 31, 1872.
JOHN F. BLONDEL, OF THOMASTON, ASSIGNOR TO SAMUEL GRAVES, OF TOPSHAM, MAINE.
IMPROVEMENT IN BROOWl-BRIDLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 134,459, dated December 31, 1872.
To all Iwhom it may concern:
`Be it known that I, JOHN F. BLONDEL, of Thomaston, in the county of Knox and State of' Maine, have invented a new and Improved Broom-Bridle; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanyin g drawing forming part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective View of my broombridle, and Fig. 2 a perspective view otl the same when placed on a broom.
Similar letters of reference in the accompanying drawing denote the same parts.
This invention has for its object to improve the construction of brooms in such a manner as to cause the broom to keep the shape it has when new until it is worn out, thus increasing its durability and efficiency. To this end the invention consists in a pair of metallic frames having a spring-connection at their upper ends, and placed outside the broom so as to inclose and protect the same, all of which I will now proceed to describe.
In the drawing, A is a broom of ordinary construction. B B are the frames aforesaid, the same being of a length equal to the proper `width of the broom, and having turned-up ends B', and having spring coiled connections O at the upper extremities of the ends B',
which connections draw the frames together.
Thus constructed thevframes are applied to the broom so as to inclose it at a suitable distance above its lower end. The elasticity of the frames serves to hold them tightly on the broom, which they consequently prevent from' spreading out, and therefore render more durable and efficient. A bar, D, with hooked ends, can be used, passing through the broom and holding the frames together it' the spring gets out otl them. This bar will, however, seldom be found necessary.
hat I claim as new is- The broom-bridle, consisting of the frames B having the turned-up ends B and springconnections O, all arranged as specified.
JOHN F. BLONDEL.
