ERT HOWARD, OF GALENA, OHIO.
Specication of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 13, 1907.
Application ned August 16.1906. Serial No. 330.853.
To all whom fit may concern:
Be it known that I, HERBERT HOWARD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Galena, in the county of Delaware and State ot Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in a Combination Ourrycomb and Brush, oi which the following is a specication.
This invention relates to combination curry comb and brushes, the object being to provide very novel means for connecting the comb and brush so that they can be used alternately, or disconnected and used separately when desired.
Another object o my invention is to provide very novel means for adjusting the handle so that it can be turned soas to be above the back ot the curry comb or brush as the case may be.
With these objects in view, the invention consists in the novel eatures of construction, hereinafter fully described and pointed out in the claims. In the drawings forming a part of this speciication:- Figure l is a perspective view of my improved combination curry comb and brush. Fig. 2 is'a side elevational view of the comb and brush showing the handle in sections and part oi the brush in section. Fig. 3 is a detail view oi the plate. Fig. 4 is a top plan view ot' the brush partly broken away showing the connecting bolts in section.
Referring to the drawing A, indicates an ordinary curry comb, to one end o which are secured blocks A/, to which is secured a plate B having an upwardly projecting portion B, provided with an opening in which a rod C2, is mounted which extends out trom an arm O, carried by the errule O. The other end of the rod is mounted in an opening in an angle plate D, secured to the other end of the comb. A handle, E is secured in the errule provided with a longitudinal bore E, enlarged at its outer end in which a coil spring F., is arranged. Extending through said bore and spring is a rod G, having a head G, at its outer end which is engaged by the outer end of the spring F. The other end is reduced and provided with a square head G2, adapted to be held by the coil spring in one ot the square openings B3, formed at the ends of the semi-circular groove B2, formed in the upwardly projecting portion ot the plate.
Bolts H, project upwardly from the back of the comb upon which nuts H, are arranged, adapted to engage enlarged nuts H2. whlch are adapted to engage the brush j I, arranged thereon, the other end of the brush resting on the angle plate D. rThe end of the bolt H, project j up through the elongated openings If, formed therein and are provided with oblong nuts H3, which are adapted to be turned cross-wise oi the opening I, so as to securely lock the brush between the nuts H2, H3.
When it is desired to use either the brush or comb, the head G, oi the rod G, is pushed in so as to throw the square head out ot the opening and bring the reduced portion of the rod in the groove. The handle is then turned so as to bring he handle above the back ot the brush or comb, as the case may be, so that it'can be readily used. y f
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a device of the kind described, the combination with a comb, of apertured plates secured to said comb, a brush carried by said comb and a handle adjustably mounted in said plates, for the purpose described.
2. In a device of the kind described, the combination with a comb, ot' plates secured to said comb, a rod lnounted on said plate, provided with an arm, a handle secured to said arm, and a brush detachably connected to the comb, for the purpose described.
3. In a device of the kind described, the combination with a comb and brush secured together, of a handle ad justably connected thereto, and locking means carried by j the handle, for the purpose described.
l. 1n a device of the kind described, the combination with a comb apertured plates secured to said comb, a brush connected to said comb, a handle provided with a rod mounted in said plates and means for locking said handle, for the purpose described.
5. in a device of the kind described, the combination with a comb, of a plate secured to one end of said comb, having' a semi-circular groove formed therein and provided with square openings at its ends, a rod mounted in said plate provided with an arm, a handle secured to said arm, and a spring actuated rod mounted in the handle provided with a square head adapted to t in one of the square openings in said plate, for the purpose described.
(S. In a device of the kind described, the combination with a comb having a brush detachably connected thereto, of an apertured plate secured to said comb provided with a semi-circular groove having' square openings formed in its ends, a rod mounted in said plate, provided with an arm, a handle secured to said arm, a spring actuated rod carried by the handle provided with a square head adapted to lit in the openings at the end of the groove in the plate, for the purpose described.
HERBERT HOWARD.
