Description

J. H. LUCAS. Plasterers T001.
No. 213.671. Patented Mar. 25, 15579.-
Y Il l Il* I wmww Hun y Lmnullllnl l s PHOTQLITMDGHAPHER, WASHINGTON n C NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN H. LUCAS, OF SOMERSET, INDIANA.
IMPROVEMENT IN PLASTERERS TOOLS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 2l 3,671, dated March 25, 1879; application filed October 16, 1878.
To all whom it 'may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN H. LUCAS; of Somerset, in the county of Wabash and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Plasterers Tools; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use' the same, reference being had to the aecompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction of a plasterers hockboard, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In the annexed drawings, to which reference is made, and which fully illustrate my invention, Figure l is a bottom view of my invention. Fig. 2 is a central vertical section of the same. Fig. 3 is a similar section, showing a modification in the construction of the center-bolt. Fig. 4 is an end view of onepart of the handle.
A represents a square board of any suitable dimensions, provided on the under side with a metallic supporter, B. This supporter is made in the form shown, with four arms, which are fastened at their extremities, by screws or otherwise, to the board.
C represents a screwor bolt, which is passed down through the center of the board and center of the metallic support. The head of the bolt O is countersunk in the board A, and may be made square, as shown in Figs. land 2, or it may be made round, as shown in Fig. 3, in which latter ease that portion of the bolt which is in the supporter B is made square. In either case, when the bolt is in place it cannot turn.
D is a plate or washer, made preferably of zinc, and placed on the bolt up against the supporter, which plate forms a cooling and heating surface against the operators hand.
The handle is shown made in two parts, F and Gr. The part F has a longitudinal hole through it for the passage of the bolt, and has a metal nut, a, embedded and secured in the lowger end. This part F is then screwed on the bolt C to confine the plate D; and the part G of the handle is then screwed ou the end of the bolt, inclosing the same, and joining with the part F to complete the handle.
It will readilyT be seen that if the handle should become loose a simple turn or two on the handle will make it firm and solid again.
If the board A should become worn out or otherwise useless, the attachments can easily be removed and applied on another board.
I am aware that a board and double handle with central rod, broadly, have been used, and I do not claim such as my invention; but,
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. In combination with a board, A, the metallic support B, the bolt O, countersunk in the board, and a handle screwed upon said bolt, substantially as herein set forth.
2. The combination of the board A, support B, bolt C, and handle made in two parts, F and G, the part F having the nut c secured therein, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
3. The zine plate or washer D and support B, in combination with the bolt, handle, support, and board, for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOHN H. LuoAs.
