IMPROVEMENT IN THILLfCOUPLINGS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 169,582, dated November 2, l1875 application led April 23, 1875.
To all whom t may concern Be it known that I, THOMAS J. QUICK, of IVarsaw, county of Kosciusko and State of Indiana, have invented an Improved 'lhill- Coupling.
The following description, taken in connection with the accompanying plate of drawings hereinafter referred to, forni` a full and exact specication, wherein are set forth the nature and principles of the invention, by which the same may be distinguished from others of a similar class, together with such parts thereof as are claimed as new and are desired to be secured by Letters Patent of the United States. My invention relates to thin-couplings; and the nature thereof consists in certain improvements in the construction of the same, and novel combination of the parts thereof, hereinafter shown anddescribed.
In the accompanying plate of drawings, in which corresponding parts are designated by similarl letters, Figure l represents a thill-coupling, with my improvement applied thereto. Fig. 2 designates the spring-strip of metal, rubber, or other suitable substance.
rIhe shackle A is secured, iu the ordinary manner, to the vehicle, and is provided with projections B, between which the shank of the thill is secured. A bolt, C, passes through apertures cut iu the said projections and shank, Y
end of the spring is then secured in such a Y manner as to rest against the said annular projection and allow the blunt end d2 of the bolt to pass through it.
Having thus described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States- In a thill-coupling, the combination of the shackle A, the bolt C, having a pointed end, d, and annular flange cl2, and the curvilinear 'spring D,having two oval-shaped apertures for the reception of the bolt, all constructed as and for the purposes described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 20th day of April, 1875.
