To all whom it may concern:

.ARNOLD' J. TIUCLEN, a States of America, re siding at St. Johns, in the county of Olinton and State of Michigan, have invented new and useful Improvements in Cleaning Attachments for Currycombs, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to improvements Be it known that I,

in cleaning attachments such as are employed with curry combs to remove the collected hair and dirt from the teeth thereof.

One object of the invention is the provision of an improved form of cleaner comprising a plurality of channeled plates connected by rods and a spring lever positioned within easy reach of the thumb of with said plates and serving to move the same outwardly to remove the hair and dirt from the teeth of the comb.

WVith these and other objects in view, which will more fully hereinafter appear, the present invention consists in certain novel details of construction and arrangement of parts, hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and more particularly pointed out in the appended claim; it being understood that various changes in the form, proportion, size, and minor details of the device may be made, within the scope of the appended claim, without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.

In the accompanying drawing, forming a part of the specification ;-F:igure 1 is a perspective view of a curry comb showing my improved device applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a bottom plan view of the same. Fig. 3 is a sectional side elevation on the line 38 of Fig. 2.

Similar numerals of reference are employed to designate corresponding parts throughout.

The back or stock of the comb is designated by the numeral 5 and the handle extending beyond one end of the stock by the numeral 6. The lower face of the stock is provided with a plurality of spaced channeled members designated by the numeral 7, and the longitudinal edges of said members being serrated to provide teeth 8.

The cleaner comprising one part of the subject matter of the present invention is shown to include a plurality of channelshaped plates, the bottoms of which are designated by the numeral 9 and the opposite sides by the numerals 10 and 11.. These members are of a width to nicely fit within and between the channeled members 7, said plates being somewhat less in depth than the depth of the channeled members 7, so that when their bottoms 9 bear on the adjacent face of the back or stock 5 the edges of the sides 10 and 11 will be adjacent to the inner ends of the teeth 8. The channeled members 7 are provided with vertically disposed slots 12 through which the connecting rods 18 and 14 extend, said rods having their ends secured to the front and back plates 15 and 16 and being extended through the side plates 10 and 11, as clearly shown in Fig. 3.

A supporting bracket is shown to comprise a pair of body portions 17 and 1S arranged diagonally of each other, as shown in Fig. 1, the said body portions terminating at their opposite ends in downwardly extending feet 19 which extend through openings formed in the back or stock 5 and over the connecting rods 13 and 14:. The terininal portions of the feet 19 are coiled around or otherwise suitably secured to the rods as shown in Fig. 2.

An operating lever 20 in the present instance is shown to be formed of a single piece of resilient metal and is bow-shaped in contour. The intermediate portion of this lever is passed between the body portions 17 and 18 at a point where said bodies cross, and is fixedly secured thereto by means of a clip or loop 21, which passes through an opening in the lever and has its opposite end portions curved over and under the body portions 17 and 18. One end portion of the lever 20 extends to that end of the stock opposite to the end from which the handle 6 projects and is fixedly secured thereto by a bolt or rivet 22, the opposite end of the lever extending to a point adjacent to the handle and within easy reach of the thumb of the operator. Owing to the shape of the lever, it will be evident when the same is connected to the bracket in the manner just described, that the cleaning plates will be held against the lower face of the stock or back. When it is desired to remove the dirt and collective hair from the teeth 8 a downward pressure on the free end of the lever 20 will move the plates outwardly in the manner before described. The loop member 21 permits the central portion of the operating members 17 and 18 to have relative movement on the lever 20, so that the feet of the members 17 and 18 will not bind against the edges of the openings through which they pass. From the foregoing, itis evident that I have provided a device which is comparatively simple in structure and inexpensive in manufacture, embodying few parts and these so arranged that the danger of derangement will be reduced to a minimum.

I claim A self cleaning currycomb comprising a back plate, U-shapedv members formed with comb teeth mounted upon one face of said plate, U-shaped cleaning members movable against said teeth, end plates movable against the outer teeth, transverse rods movable through said teeth and connecting said cleaner members, a spring mounted at one end on said plate, U-shaped wire rod members disposed on opposite sides of said spring and slidably extending through said plate and having terminals around said 25 rods, and a ring embracing the central portions of said U-shaped wire rod members and loosely connecting said portions to said spring, whereby the cleaning members may be operated by striking the spring against 30 an abutment.
