F IMPROVEMENT IN COME-CLEANERS.

Be it known that I, CHARLES EDWARD GIBns, ot"

Boston," in the county of Suffolk and Stateof Massachusetts, have made an invention of a new and useful Improvement in Implements for Cleaning Toilet-Combs, and do hereby declare the following to be 4a full, clear, andv exact description thereof', due reference being had to the accompanying drawings inak- -ing part of this specification, and in which- Figure l is a perspective representation, and Figure 2, a section ot' my invention.

The article upon which this invention' is based, as t cast or soldered into or upon the metal ot' said bar, the

semi-elastic properties and' strength of the yoke serving to maintain the rigidity of the wiresand prevent their misplacement-under service.4

In the construction heretofore of cainb-cleaners of the above class, plain, straight wires have been employed, and which are passed up and down in between the teeth.

This invention consists in the adoption, in lieu of the straight wiresbefore mentioned, of a series of corrugated wires, or of Wires bent into a helical form, in order to produce, in a given distance, a much greater cleaning surface than can be obtained with the straight wiresbefore mentioned.

This improvement is particularly valuable in cleaning theA interstices at the base of the teeth of the comb, and is' to be used in such locality by forcing it backward and forward quickly within such iuterstices.

The concavities in the wires of my improvement-are productive ot` beneticial results, as compared with a straight wire, as they fit more closely to or cover a muchlarger portion of the surface of the two.

The accompanying -drawings represent at 'a a castmetal bar, ot the shape substantially of a yoke or other analogous or suitable form; the extremities' of such bar being prolonged into lateral horizontal feet b b, which serve to support a series of corrugated, undulating, or twisted wires c c, &c., arranged in the manner oran ordinary gridiron, the ends of such wires be ing cast in or soldered to the feet b b.

One end of the yoke or bar @maybe providedwitlr an integral handle, d, for convenience in use, although this handle is not a necessary feature iu the device.

The low cost and durability ot' a comb-cleaner produced as -above explained adds to its value.

Claim.

I claim an implement 'for cleaning combs, composed of a series of metallic corrugated or undulating wires,

cast into or soldered to a metallic yoke or other suitable 'f'rame, in the manner shownand set forth.
