have invented certain new anduseful Improvements in Dust-Beaters and Ido hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specication, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.

This invention relates to improvements in dust-beaters for use in beating carpets, draperies, furniture, &c.; and it has for its object the production of a simple, cheap, and durable device which will effectively remove the dust from the article beaten without tearing or cutting the same.

Another object is to devise a beater which when struck against the article to be beaten will remove the dust therefrom at all points within the outlines or frame of the beaterhead.

A still further object is the production of such a device which, owing to its construction, will not permit the dust to lodge therein.

It consists in certain novel details of construction and combination and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter described, and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.

In the accompanyingdrawings, Figure l is a side View of the beater. Fig. 2 is a section through the beaterhead,on an enlarged scale, taken on line 2 2, Fig. l. Fig. 3 is a crosssection of the handle, on an enlarged scale, taken on line 3 3, Fig. l. Fig. 4 is a longitudinal section of the upper portion of the handle, taken on line 4 4t, Fig. 3, showing the manner of securing the shank thereto.

Like letters of reference refer to like parts in the several figures.

The letter A designates the beater-head, B the shank, and C the handle.

The frame of the beater-head consists of a sti wire a, preferably curved into a circle midway between its ends and lhaving outwardly projecting continuations or extensions b, which, with a center wire c, form the shank of the beater. The center wire c extends to the center of the beater-head and has an eye or ring d arranged concentric with the circular frame of the latter. At the point where the center wire meets the circular frame the continuations or extensions b are preferably twisted around the center wire in opposite directions, as at E, and they are carried down on opposite sides of the center wire to the handle C'. Y

Between the eye or ring d of the center Wire and the circular frame of the beater-head is a series of concentric interwoven wire coils F, the outer coil being coiled around said circular frame, while the inner coil is coiled around the eye or ring of the center wire.`

` Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new isl. Adustbeater,havingabeater-head comprising a frame and interwoven wire coils within the space bounded by said frame, said coils being supported on the latter, substantially as set forth.`

2. A dust-beater,having a beater-head comprising a circular frame and concentric interwoven coils held within and supported by said frame, substantially as set forth. Y

A dust-beater,having a beater-head comu prising a frame, a wire extending therefrom to the center thereof and having a ring or eye at its inner end, a series of concentric interwoven wire coils arranged within the circular frame and havingits outer coil secured to said frame, and its inner coil secured to said ring or eye, substantially as set forth.

The combination of the circular wire frame having outwardly-projecting continuations or extensions, a center Wire extending from the center of the circular frame to a point beyond the saine and having an eye or ring at its inner end arranged concentric with the circular frame,said outwardly-proj ectin g continuations or extensions being twisted around said center wire and therewith forming the shank of the beater, a series of concentric interwoven Wire coils arranged within the circular frame and supported by the same and the eye or ring on the center wire, and-a handle secured to the wires forming the shank, substantially as set forth.

5. The vcombination of the circular Wire frame having outwawily-projecting continuations or extensions, a center wire extending from the center of the circular frame to a point beyond the saine and having an eye or ring fornled at its inner end, said outwardly-projectingcontinuations or extensions being held tothe center wire at or near said circular frame and having inwardly projecting ends, and with the center wire forming the shank of the beater, wire connections between said eye or STEEN J.
