Description

PATENTED JAN. 1 2,; 1904.
E. B. WEBB.
' UURRYCOMB. APPLICATION FILED SEPT. 2B, 1903.
H0 MODEL.
UNITED STATES Patented January 12, 1904.
PATENT OFFICE.
CURRYCOMB.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 749,596, dated January 12, 1904.
Application filed September 28, 1903. Serial No. 174,915. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, EDWARD BooNE WEBB, acitizen of the United States, residingv at Rock City, in the county of Stephenson and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Currycombs, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is to construct a currycomb in which a plate has a spring connection with the comb proper and by depressing the plate the teeth of the comb can be cleaned of adhering hair. I
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a top view of my improved currycomb. Fig. 2 is an under face representation. Fig. 3 is a vertical section on dotted line a, Fig. 1, the parts in their normal position. Fig. 4 is a similar section in which the plate is depressed. Fig. 5 is a transverse section on dotted line b, Fig. 1. I
The 'main portion of the curryoomb is of the usual construction, comprising the back 1, having its sides turned down forming toothed sections 2, intermediate toothed sections 3, secured to the back, and a handle 4, connected to the back. The back has an opening 5 located about centrally of its length and width. A frame has a connection withthe back and comprises the base portion 6, riveted to the back 1, the vertical side portions 7, and end portions 8, bent in channel or groove form. A plate 9 has a connection with the wire edging 10 at its ends and has a series of lengthwise slots 11, receiving the intermediate teeth of the comb. The edges of these slots are turned down, as shown in section at Figs. 3 and 4.
To the plate 9 is attached a guide 12, fitted to the groove or channel formed by the end portions 8 of the frame and having sections 13 passing through openings in the plate and engaging the Wire edging 10. A pin 14 connects the side plates 7, and a spring 15 is coiled around the pin, having its ends resting against the base-plate and its center portion 16 extending through an opening 17 in the upper end of the guide 12.
In use the plate rests against the under side of the back of the brush, thereby exposing the teeth of the comb and allowing the comb to be used as if of the ordinary construction. When the teeth have accumulated hair from the horse, by depressing the center portion of the spring the guide connected to the plate will be moved in the guideway, carrying the plate with it, thereby forcing the hair from the teeth of the comb, and the spring will erturn the plate into its normal position.
I claim as my invention The combination of a currycomb having a series of rows of teeth, a plate having slots through which the teeth of the comb extend, a guideway supported by the comb-back, a guide supported by the plate and movable in the guideway, a pin, and a spring coiled around the pin having its ends resting against a stationary part and its free center section passing through an opening in the guide thereby holding the plate in its normal position.
EDWARD BOONE WEBB.
