To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, FREDERICK F. Eonnnr. a citizen of the United States, residing at Ragersville, in the county of Tuscarawas and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Grooming Implements, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to a grooming im plement operable to dislodge mud or dirt especially from the legs of draft animals.

I aim to provide a device for'the purpose stated which will be generally improved, highly eifective in use, simple in construction and one which especially can be made at very low cost.

Among the definite objects of the inven tion may be mentioned, the provision of a plurality of dislodging elements rigidly sup ported from the implement back and being preferably elongated, parallel, spaced apart and spaced from the implement back; dislodging elements fastening at both ends to the back of the implement, with the ends preferably bent over or upset; and dislodging elements having curved or deflected portions adjacent their extremities to limit the passage of fastening portions or shanks thereof through the back of the implement. With the above, and additional objects, such as will hereinafter appear, in view, the invention has been embodied in one preferred form as now to be described and which is illustrated in accompanying drawings.

Referring specifically to the drawings, 4 designates an improved type of handle suitably secured to a back 5 which may be of any preferred construction and of any suitable material, for instance, metal or wood.

From the back 5, a plurality of dislodging elements generally designated at 6 are supported. These elements have elongated dislodging portions 7 parallel with each other and spaced from the back 5 as shown in Fig. 3. The portions 7 merge into curved portions 8 which terminate in fastening portions 9. These fastening portions 9 extend through suitable openings 10 in the back 5 and their extent of insertion is limited by the engagement of the curved portions 8 with the back. After insertion through the openings 10, the portions 9 are bent over or upset to form angle lugs 11. Each dislodging element may be made from a single strand of material, for instance metallic wire but I do not limit myself to any particular material.

In use, the handle 4 is grasped and the head 5 moved over the mud or dirt to be dislodged and with the dislodging elements 6 in engagement with the mud or dirt. By reciprocatory movement of the implement, the dirt is readily dislodged and without injury or annoyance to the animal.

Since merely the preferred embodiment of the invention has been illustrated and described, it is to be understood that the details of construction may be changed within the spirit and scope of appended claim.

I claim:

A grooming implement including a wooden head of oblong configuration, strands of smooth wire arranged in spaced parallel relation with their ends passed through the head adjacent the terminals of the latter, said wire ends being pressed into the upper face of the head to make the strands rigid, each of said strands being tensioned to define a substantially semi-elllptical shape, substantially as set forth.
