APPLICATION man on. 20. 1915.

CLEANING DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent. 7 PatentedJ 3,1 1. 4, 1916.
Application filed OctoberQQ, 1915. Serial No. 56,946.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I MARIA F. HEATH- COCK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Princeton, in the county of Bureau and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cleaning Devices, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to certain improvements in cleaning devices and has relation more particularly to a device of this general character especially designed and adapted for use in connection with combs; and it is an object of the invention to provide a cleaning device having novel and improved means whereby a comb may be thoroughly cleansed with convenience and facility.
The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of my improved cleaning device whereby certain important advantages are attained and the device is rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advantageous for use, all as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
The novel features of the invention will be carefully defined in the appended claims.
In order that my invention may be the better understood, I will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure l is a view in perspective of a cleaning device constructed in accordance with an embodiment of my invention; and Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view taken through the device as disclosed in Fig. 1 at substantially the transverse center thereof.
As disclosed in the accompanying drawings, 1 denotes the body of my improved device provided at one side with the parallel disposed arms 2 arranged at the ends of the body and said arms have their free extremities returned, as at 3, to afford spring hooks with which the rings A are adapted to be detachably engaged. The rings 4: are connected by the threads 5 which may be of any predetermined gage and which are adapted to be reciprocated between the teeth of a comb in order to assure an effective cleansing thereof. The opposite side margins of the body 1 are disposed on inward inclines in a direction away from the arms 2 to afford the restricted straight knife edge 6 which serves as an effective means whereby gum or the like which collects between the teeth of the comb may be cut therefrom. It is also to be observed that the rear marginal portion of the body 1 between the arms 2 is returned, as at 7 in order to reinforce the body.
From the foregoing description, it is thought to be obvious that a cleaning device constructed in accordance with my invention is of an'extremely simple and comparatively inexpensive nature and is particularly well adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility with which it may be assembled, and it will also be obvious that my invention is susceptible of some change and modification without material departure from the principles and spirit thereof and for this reason I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the precise arrangement and formation of the several parts herein shown in carrying out my invention in practice.
I claim:v
1. As a new article of manufacture, a comb cleaner comprising a body provided with a cutting edge and with arms disposed in a direction away from the cutting edge, a flexible member, and coacting means carried by the flexible member and the arms for detachably connecting the flexible member with the arms.
2. As a new article, of manufacture, a comb cleaner comprising a body provided with a cutting edge and with spaced arms, a flexible member, and coacting means carried by the flexible member and the arms for detachably connecting the flexible memberwith the arms.
3. As a new article of manufacture, a comb cleaner comprising a body having its end walls arranged on forward and inward inclines, the margin of the body between the forward ends of the end walls being formed with cutting edge, arms projecting from the body in a direction away from the cutting edge, and a flexible member engaged with the arms.
4. As a new article of manufacture, a comb cleaner comprising a body having its end walls arranged on forward and inward inclines, the margin of the body between the forward ends of the end walls being formed with cutting edge, arms projecting from the In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my body in a direction away from the cuttlng signature 1n the presence of tWo Witnesses.
ed e the free extremities of the arms being I ret ur ned to afiord hook members, a flexible MARIA HEATI 1000K member, and rings secured to the extremi- Witnesses:
ties of the flexible member and detachably IRA C. GrBoNs,
engaged with the hook members of the arms. RUTH WVELANDER.
