HUSKING IMPLEMENT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 28, 1914.
Application filed May 1, 1912. Serial No. 694,440.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ROBERT J. PAUL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Grilman, in the county of Marshall, State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Husking Implements; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in husking implements.
The principal object of the invention is to prOVide an implement of the character described which can be readily attached to or detached from the hand of the operator, and which when in its former position, will be securely retained against movement.
Another object of the invention is to provide an implement of the character described which is extremely simple in construction, it being composed of a minimum number of parts, and is therefore cheap to manufacture.
lVith these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the construction and novel combination of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, and pointed out in the claim hereto appended; it being understood that various changes in the form, proportion, size and -minor details of construction within the scope of the claim may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
In the drawing: Figure 1 is a perspective view showing a husking implement constructed in accordance with my invention attached to a hand, the hand being shown in dotted lines to better disclose the invention, and Fig. 2 is a plan view of the implement.
Like reference numerals designate corresponding parts in all the figures of the drawing.
Referring to the drawing, 5 designates a metallic plate which is preferably in the form of a parallelogram, and this plate is transversely curved to conform to the shape of the ball of the thumb of a hand and to form a resultant front portion 5 and heel 5". Stamped from the forward portion 5 of the plate is a plurality of V-shaped husking hooks 6 which are curved rearwardly or toward the heel portion 5 of the plate. A front attaching strap 7 is centrally secured to the forward edge 5 of the plate 5 by rivets or other suitable attaching means. Secured to one end of this strap is a pair of buckles 8-8, the outer buckle being engageable by the other end of the strap. Formed in the strap adjacent the plate 5 and on that side of the plate toward the thumb is an elongated opening 9 through which a strap 10 is fed, one end of the strap being secured to the adjacent corner of the heel 5 of the plate, and the other end having engagement with the remaining buckle 8 above mentioned. It will thus be observed that the thumb of the operators hand is disposed between the plate 5 and the strap 10. In order to secure the heel 5 of the plate against further movement, a wrist strap 11 is centrally secured to said heel and a buckle 12 is carried by one end of the strap for engagement with the other thereof.
What is claimed is In a hand implement, the combination with a rigid plate adapted to form a tool support of an attaching front strap connected intermediate its ends to the front portion of the plate, said strap having a widened end portion provided with a plurality of buckles and a narrow end portion forming a single perforated tongue, saict strap also having a slot formed transversely therein adjacent the plate, a second strap connected to the rear of the plate and extending approximately parallel to the front strap, said second strap having a buckle at one end and terminating in a perforated tongue at the opposite end, and a third strap attached at one end to the rear portion of the plate and at one of the points of connection of the second strap with such plate, said third strap then extending longitudinally of the plate and passing through the slot in the front strap, the terminal of said third strap forming a tongue adapted to engage with one of the buckles of the front strap.
In testimony whereof, I aflix my signature, in presence of two witnesses.
